LOOONG Distance Drive comin up

What does the ambient air temperature have to do with this?
You are inside your climate-controlled/ air-conditioned Z where you don’t feel the outside temperature. Maybe keep the windows rolled-up?
Drive during the day when it's hot (and you can keep cool inside your Z), and spend the cool evenings at the hotel/motel/campground outside your car.

For sure, and often overlooked. If you need a car for a long trip, shop for a daily rate with no mileage charge. That way you can do Reign Man’s trip for cheap without adding 3k miles on your Z.
Reign Man is headed home on a one-way trip… taking his Z with him, so that won’t work for him.

I recently broke down & bought a Garmin Nuvi 1300, well worth the lack of stress and ease of use right out of the box. I like the feature that lets me find the shortest route with NO toll roads. I also found out that my cruise control will ONLY go to 89mph, this sucks for early morning driving. Be safe & get home in 1 piece.

^^ It wasn’t a correction, but instead an agreement. As you point out… if you are going to do a road trip, why not do it in a rental?
I would prefer putting 3K on a rental Ford Fusion than on my Z.

^^ For sure. I bought one of those vibrating/massage heated back-pads that you place on the seatback and plug into your cigar lighter/power-outlet.
The device is sooo comfortable and relaxing that it tends to induce a lack of concentration when driving a long distance/time. It proved dangerous and I quit using it.

Don't worry about the drive, just be sure to change your oil when needed. I've done so many 600mi/800mi/1600mi drives in my life I can plan to leave the same or next day. If you maintain your car good enough you should be able to drive this distance without having to worry about anything.
Alabama and Virginia are going to seem the worst, especially Virginia. Don't speed there, cops are everywhere in that state plus radar detectors are illegal.

Bro, I feel your pain. Just drove from Georgia to Louisiana.
Get a clear bra (bout 160 on EBay) for the Z, it'll take insane hits from road debris, bugs, etc. and will save you $$$ on painting the nose of the missile. Or, go cheap and go get some road wrap at buyroadwrap.com for $60. Don't do the blue tape, it's a pain in the *** to clean up. GET A GOOD RADAR DETECTOR, I suggest Valentine 1 or Escort 8500 X50.
Oil change, check tires, fluids, get Rain-X on ALL windows. Get some good road music, or a transmitter for your Ipod. Good driving shoes (Puma Cells are good, Pilotis are the best), comfortable clothes and good shades for your eyes. If you got tint on your windows, it'll keep you cool as well. I drove during the day, it's better to have a flat during daylight than at midnight in Boonieville. Oh yeah, and get a good GPS. My Z came with one, so it saved me all kinds of headaches in figuring out where to go or where the next BBQ place was.

Oh, I forgot. If you're considering renting a car, some companies allow you to drive only into the neighboring state. Driving from Texas to Pennsylvania would be out of the question. It's worth verifying.

lol i think every single car that drove past me looked in total confusion.. i got the tape from CVS, it was just blue painters tape with a mild level of adhesiveness.. the drive itself was 1300 miles and my car is gonna hit 90k next week...

Just do your normal maintenance and don't stomp on the gas so much. Long trips is when you can find out how you car really does on gas. My last trip from Houston to Columbia, SC, my car did 547 miles from full to the light first coming on at 75mph. Who needs a Hybrid?
