Default Child of the 70s

Us geezers also have baggage to get past.

As someone who grew up in the 70s lusting after hotrods, the first thing I thought when I saw the Zs back hatch was "Man that would look bad-as* with the rear raised up and some louvers.

Don't worry. It passed. I just had to deal with the way back machine before moving on.

Those were simpler times when people thought jacking the back of the car up 6 inches would make it handle better.

My last car was a Lexus SC300 5MT.

Robert speaking: My "beater" is a 2001 Audi S8 (just in case it snows in Colorado).

My first car was a black 1950 Mercury Coupe with 3 on the tree (if anybody remembers what that means).

Robert speaking: My first car was a '49 Chevy and it too had 3 on the tree.

I've never grown up, probably never will.

Just turned 54. First car was a 49 Chevy "Deluxe". 3 on the tree and a radio. Cool factor rose when I got a TR-4 while at college. Cool factor (wife calls it mid-life crisis) came to a head last March when I took delivery of CS performance.

OK... my name is Lisa... I'm 42 and I am a speedoholic. 70's child. Still like my rock and roll and my blue jean bellbottoms. Hubby just got rid of his 70 GTO Judge, still had the 8-track in it. I've had corvettes, 240z, maxima, camaro and my ZR SB is my Baby. I'm answering the phone in between reading these posts trying to decide where I'm going to party tonight. Decided, neighbors for a coctail, then off to the comedy club. Nightcap back here in my Jacuzzi. Got my motorcycle license last year and got myself a 1999 Harley Duece. We go to Daytona and Sturgis for bike rally's. I drive a boat in the summer and Polaris snowmobile in the winter.
Oh BTW...Gigi...that's what my grandchildren call me. My daughter is 26 and my son-in-law will be 28. Stepson's going to college next year.
It's all just a number my friend!!

61 here. My first car was a '52 Chev (used, of course) with one of those turning ***** on the steering wheel. No AT then. You older guys remember those *****...especially with the pics of pretty gals in them? Wish I had a collection of them now. Just came out of a 2000 Jag XK8 and before that a Porsche 928 and have a SB Touring on order so I can drive a real sports car.

Well, Not much of a problem if you concentrat on what you are doing. Once you lose it on a hill then all finess is over - push in the clutch, grab the e-brake, give it gas and go for it! It is technic more than anything and the clutch doesn't have to suffer.

it shouldn't matter how old we are, just as long as we get along with one another...but since were listing our age I can probably say I am one of the youngest owners here, turning 17 next January. Nice to meet you all!

51... it's nice to see a thread that isnt complaining about the mean cop who gave them a speeding ticket or asking how to drive a stick shift. LOL

Default Oldster

I'm almost fifty. Only logged on this site a week ago but found it to be the most informative. I do not own a 350Z as yet , right now I am saving toward it. Had a lot of sports cars B.K. ( before kids ). Had a '66 Mini Cooper , '71 240Z , '75 X19 , '85 RX7. Also sold only a year ago a '70 Dodge Challenger R/T convertible ( no clone). Any way Test drove a new Cooper S ( wasn't that impressed ) Had a couple of 350Z's out. Loved it. Of course a little put off with the bland interior and lack of vision toward the rear. By the way for all the owners here on site is this lack of vision a concern , like lane changing etc. Have you had some close calls ? **** I didn't see him. I was a little nervous on the test drives and wondered if over the long haul that fear goes away ? Like the Track pack version , probably Silverstone but that could change. Found the thread here about the supercharger really interesting. Anyway really jealous of everyone who already has one. Maybe by the time I can order mine they will be offering a Supercharged factory version ( I wish ) with full waranty. I thought the sound system sucked in the test cars and they had the upgraded systems. Music is very important to me. Into bands like the White Stripes, Elbo , Radiohead , etc. An aftermarket system will be in order if no improvements made by the time I place my order. I hope to order early summer 2004 probably hold off for a 2005. Hoping for the feathering issue ( which I wasn't away of till I read it on this site ) to be resolved by then as well as the hoping issue mentioned earlier. Maybe by 2005 they will have improved the sound system. Anyway I will continue to monitor this site. Please keep the great info coming !

They were also called "Necker" ***** and you could steer the car while groping your girlfriend. They were illegal because one hand steering on the tubs most teenagers drove was a dangerous practice, especially when you took your eyes off the road to kiss her. My first car was a '50 Ford flathead V8, painted puke green, 4 doors and 3 on the tree(column mounted 3 speed shifter) also. I came out of a commuter '97 Accord EX 5 speed, and before that a '91 Toyota MR2 Turbo. I had a '72 240Z and thought a 350Z would be fun.

Just bought a used 2003 Touring at 54 years old. Never imagined I would be driving a "Z" and my 20-year old can't believe it either. But I was close to a used 911, Boxster or a new S2000 and was sold on the "Z" after test driving one. Another "geezer", a 50-year old, was selling his car after one year and 1500 miles. One look at this car, black w. burnt orange leather, Racing Hart wheels, Michelin Pilot tires, Stillen cold air package and exhaust, among other extras, won me over. It is unbelievable! I'll forward a picture when I get a chance. At our age you just have to do things for yourself if it makes you happy. I don't worry much about what others think.

I am 45 going on 19. Anything that is fast = I like.
Have had many fast cars, and am really enjoying my G.
I also drive a boat in the summer, and sincerely believe in the "he who dies with the most toys wins" theory.
Anyhow my boat is my favorite toy. Here's a pic.

My Z is the latest in a string of sports cars that dates back more than 30 years (I'm 55 now). My first was in 1970--a '61 Porsche 356 Karmann Coupe. Since then I've always had at least one sports car in the garage. (I'm a little overstocked right now, but I don't plan to sell any of them.) The Z is my daily driver and I think it will be for a while. :)

All of the Z'z I have have that same issue. I guess when you've been driving Z'z as long as I have (17 + years) you get use to it. I do recall a few close calls with the 87 though.
