This is an ariel view where the accident occurred. I can see 65 being too fast...
That ariel view is the wrong view. The news article says "was approaching the southbound Highway 101 transition from northbound Mathilda Avenue.". That exit ramp is a gradual turn and easily achieved at 65 mph. The problem is that if you are off the center of the ramp the slope of the ramp to the edge is very severe and can be dangerous. You *need* to be moving at freeway speed to merge and 65 is appropriate. That being said, the ramp is sufficiently long to reach freeway speed but the ramp has two lanes at the beginning and narrow to a single lane.
I have taken that ramp many many times. Not a challenge really when going in that direction.
Going the other direction (northbound on 101) is a 270 turn and a lot of fun if you are careful.

On-ramps are speed limits are not designed to be challenging for drivers. The speed limits are set to allow for a safe transition onto the particular section of roadway. Traffic engineers would tend to disagree with you.
wait...isn't there a guy named Singh on this forum who has a blue Z? I don't want to start rumors, but hopefully I am wrong and its nobody on this board.
RIP.

There is a Singh from Houston, but other than that I'm not sure.
Sad to have such a thing happen, but there are ramp speed limits posted and they should be followed. That way it would be safer and another day to drive the great Z cars.
Sad. Another local guy and Z gone. I know that intersection well myself, and am guessing that he merged onto the highway too quickly and the truck clipped him.
