I don't care how old you are, but if my son was almost 20 made and made more than me, I would worry about my career choices. Obviously you are not a doctor or a professional yet, so I would have to assume you don't make much money. It just seems strange and has nothing to do with acceptance into the Z community.
+1. Some teens I would say are alright because I was there not too long ago, but the attitude some come off with thinking they are so high and mighty is pathetic. I NEVER thought of myself that way and never bragged about things they do here such as "I make more than my parents", "I can drive better than you" etc.

Im in school full time and I will be making 100k a year in approx 6 months. But thats with overtime and HARD, earned work. I also forgot to mention I will be doing that WITH a degree. Unlike all these kids here who are in high school somehow making 100k a year living with mom and dad.
Well I work between 50 and 60 hours a week, and I make more than my mom and step dad, but not my real dad. And why would that lose any kind of respect...?

I did when I was young (18 units though), but now I am retired after 20 years at a university where even the president didn't have my direct line. hahaha
Where do you work? Whats your hourly pay? Pay stubs and SS# to confirm? You lose respect because you make it seem like you are higher than your parents thats why. EVEN if you somehow do make more than they do which is a longshot:
#1) its nothing you should bring up
#2) if it werent for them, if you did accomplish that you shouldnt brag because without them you wouldnt be around to be capable of that.
You should respect your parents not try to make yourself seem like you are above them which you are doing.

I don't think I'm higher than my parents, I didn't mean it that way. And I do owe it to them for how far I've gotten, but I'm proud that I'm independent, and not a spoiled teenager like many are made out to be. And no I don't sell drugs, I work at a place that deals with aerospace engineering, and I'm in their apprentice program. I am thankful to my dad for that one, cause he got me the job here, so I make $16 an hour and they pay for my school. It's not making me millions, but it's getting me somewhere.

Well, considering the current state of the economy, my mom and step dad can't get over 40 hours a week, and in spite of my mothers potential for a better job, she is concerned more with her job security, so she is sticking with a $12 an hour job. I'm not talking her down or anything, she's my mom and I love and respect her with all my being. I moved out to help with their situation. It just so happens that I got a killer deal with this Z and could get it on my own without their help.
