Kids.

When I was 16 my mom and dad gave me permission to get a J-O-B and start saving money as long as my grades didn't slip. I worked my behind off working two part time jobs and raised about $1200 to buy my first car later than year. That involved going to the seller, counting out the cash from my pocket, and driving off with the then 4 year old 1973 Plymouth Barracuda. Dad gave me permission to pay the delta on his car insurance premium which was $1000 a year even back then. He also let me park the car in front of his house and use the garage in the wintertime to affect repairs. I learned how to do my own maintenance and more importantly, the value of work, and responsibility. When I didn't have money for gas the car sat in the street and I rode my bike.

Responsibility and accountability are two lessons not taught today. Too many of today's parents are not raising citizens with values, not raising young men and women with honor, choosing to be friends with their kids rather than parents. I've seen more than anyone's fair share of failures as a Master Chief in the USN - kids too spoiled (too soiled!), too self-centered, too undisciplined, too use to having their own way to make it in the military.

Not all kids are that way but a large, and growing, percentage.
You see this pisses me off so much. Who cares if parents decide to buy their kids cars, pay for school whatever. Its their money. My parents helped me out a ton. In high school they bought me a car, car insuarnce, gas, they pretty much hooked me up financially so I could concentrate on school.I still worked in the summer but it was for spending money. In college my parents paid for tuition, books, room and board, food whatever. I always got good grades, I worked every summer. I am now two years out of college and a succeeding Architectural Engineer. I live on a very tight budget, I make a good living but I don't have a ton of money so I budget. My parents helping me out when I was young did not damage me for life, did not hold me back in learning responsibility or how to budget. IMO it is ignorant to think such.

The reason a 17 year old's parents should not but their kid a car has nothing to do with "learning responsibility". It has everything to do with learning how to drive in a weak, safe car.

I was 26 by the way when I got the Z this year. I have been saving for it. First thing I bought was my town home. Then a car. I am suprised how financially independant I am now since my parents ruined me for life for helping me out in high school and college. (Sense the sarcasim?)

Oh and if your parents did not have the means and you did have to work your **** off I can admire the extra effort that must have taken. But that gives you no right to hate people who had parents help them out financially while going to school.

here, tell me how old i look.

you guys can place blame on age, but as for me, the only people who i feel these kinds of "emotions" towards are those who are incapable of realization and appreciation of what they are given.

And on a car forum posting pictures of oneself flexing is a sign of maturity?

The irony is too much.

I remember my friend buying his first car with spare change he and his family had saved over the years.. It took like a week to get it all changed in at the casinos. haha. $2K for like a mid 80's brown camaro.

He kept it for 3 years or so.

Well. Actually, I think the irony comes in to play when people attempt to belittle other members who own the car in which the forum regards..

here, this will sit better in the forum below.
