No 16-17 year old needs a sports car. Hell I almost died in my previous 4 bangers acting like I was Michael Schumacher.
I agree +1: I started out with a 88' Hyundai Excel .....Played with Compacts/Imports since 1994. I could honestly say that I would of killed myself or others if I had a Z or any other Sports car when I was 16 or 17. There are exceptions to the rule...Very Rare exceptions. EXample
Yesterday on my drive home a "kid" was in a 89 or earlier Integra, (Mind you it has been raining for about 1 week here in Sacramento, and this is busy one lane road) behind me. At a stoplight he revs his Honda about 3 times. I just laugh and shake my head. He then proceeds to pass me and 4 cars ahead of me. Well he almost didn't make it and he had to cut in front of a SUV before on coming traffic hits him head on. Now if he was in a more powerful car, RWD and keeps on driving like an idiot, the Law of averages will catch up to him. Just my 5 cents.

Stop crying just because your parents were broke or stingy. My parents didn't buy me a car either on principal ("you should earn your own first car"). I worked for it and bought a 96 trans am when I was 16 for my first car.

I am 16 and I have a Z. I think that it is very annoying when people talk about an age limit to a car. And as far as stereotyping teenagers, and how we shouldn't have Z's, I believe it is not the 16-17 year olds that need to grow up.

You're right, it's not fair to stereotype all teen drivers, however the statistics speak for themselves. Teenagers are responsible for something like 15% of all crashes and 16 year olds have more crashes than any other age. Car accidents are also the leading cause for death for teenagers.

That being said I have had:

1985 T-Bird Turbo Coupe (Owned from 1990-1999)
1999 Mustang (1999-2004)
2004 G35 Sedan (2004 to present)

1. 1967 Chevy 10 (Still in the family)
2. 1979 Buick Regal
3. 1988 Honda Accord
4. 1979 CJ7
5. 1996 Toyota Forunner
6. 1996 Toyota Camry
7. 2000 Jeep Wrangler Sahara
8. 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee (Still have)
9. 2004 Suzuki SV650S
10. 2004 Dodge Dakota (Still have, 5 more payments)
11. 2006 CBR1000RR (Just sold in December, you will be missed)

12. will be a Z or G35....Still deciding.

So yes, I think a 16 year old should not have a fast car or bike. No matter how mature they are, they are still easily influenced and can be pressured into doing stupid things.

it's not the fact that your 16 or 17 and "own" a Z. The one thing that irritates most people on the forum are little ****** that have their Z handed to them, when they didn't pay a cent for it.

BTW, who bought your car?

Well, my dad bought it for himself, and after a while the ride was "too bumpy" for him so he bought an '07 BMW M5, and I inherited the Z. Mind you, it was not handed to me, If my gpa drops, they are selling. (current is 3.9, so I am not stupid).

thats actually another thing, most of you 16 or 17 year olds ALWAYS have to bring up the whole "I'm not stupid, blah blah blah" subjuct, which has nothing to with anything conserning this situation. the fact of the matter is most of you didn't buy your Z, it was given to you (or inherited), like i said before, is the main reason why we hate hearing about 16 and 17 year olds having one, BECAUSE YOU DID'NT BUY IT.

'96 GMC Sonoma 4.3L (15 y/o +)
'99 Mitsubishi Eclipse RS (17 y/o -19 y/o)
'03 350Z (17 y/o +)
'00 Suzuki TL1000R (19 y/o +)

I'd drove some that weren't mine though, so it's not like I wasn't used to the power.

modded '96 Trans Am (17 y/o)
'05 350Z (17 y/o +)
'07 Corvette Z-06 (18 y/o)
'03 Corvette (18 y/o)
'02 Mustang GT (19 y/o)

Edit: And nobody can say a thing about me being spoiled. I live on a farm and have worked on it as long as I can remember. I also worked in a body shop for a few years in high school and do my own body work now. I got the Z wrecked at the beginning of my senior year. I did more work on it than I'm sure 95% of the people that on a 350Z have done to their cars. I had the rear subframe and IRS out twice. I replaced the front passenger suspension and did numerous body repairs. And now after two years I have the interior stripped down again tracing the wires from the fuel pump to the IPDM trying to figure out why it's not getting fuel pressure.

So perhaps the only reason you guys don't like it when a '17 year old' has a Z is because of jealousy then, correct?

I think it has more to do with the fact that we've all known a few spoiled little ***** in our lives and more than likley you fit into that category.

teen or not, i think some people are just douchebags with the car and don't really respect it or know what theyre doing or talking about.

it's frustrating for people who really do care about their car to have some retard driving one around. Being a teen and being given the car just adds fuel to the fire since most of them arent mature enough to handle it and arent mature in general so they come across as having something to prove here.

I think it's annoying when teens complain about speeding tickets, wrecking "their" car, daddy taking the keys away etc... you know what would help that? THEM growing up!

It was not handed to you but you inherited it? what's the difference? A 3.9 in high school?!?! WOW!!! you must be the next Einstein! You know what I get when I get a "A" in school now? My company refunds my tuition... Seriously, no one give a *** about your high school gpa.

Jealous? Of what? You have accomplished nothing and have nothing to show.

PS. I know a great airport you should take the Z for a run at.

This is getting really childish.

A family that brings in a small income will buy a child a toy car, the only thing they can afford.

A family that brings in a big income will buy a child a car, because they can afford it.

Not always right is it? But would you say “no father, I don’t want the 350z that you are throwing at my feet...” Not many people would say no to that.
Age limit to a car? Some what, but it is more of a maturity level.

Personally I see allot more of older men racing and being stupid, in their big loud trucks.
There are still a lot of kids being morons, but honestly listen to your selves. Let them have there car, let them ruin a life, their life or family’s life by either killing someone or killing them selves with reckless driving ( if they actually are reckless drivers) because your words don’t seem to be affecting them do they? You tell any child with a sports car, “you’re spoiled, you never work for anything!!! Your given everything you don’t appreciate anything” Are they going to reply with, “actually you are right sir, I am going to put my car up for sale tomorrow and learn to drive with a Civic because your words have impacted my life so greatly!” NO, you either really want to save lives and teach kids values or you, you’re self are a very jealous person. You are fighting something that is really not going to change unless the law puts age limits on sports cars, and right now, there is nothing.

Also, I am not going to be given my Z, I am purchasing it my self.
