I guess because kids like SHE BADD keep showing up telling us how they proud they are that mom and dad pay for everything other than their car, and so they pour every last nickle they have into said car. Hey, you're only young once I suppose.

If we're going to have a pissing contest about who's owned what cars since they were in high school...
-1976 Toyota Celica
-1997 Subaru Impreza L
-1976 Datsun 280z
-1991 Mazda RX-7
-1990 Mazda MX-5 - 1993 Mazda MX-5 - 1997 Mazda MX-5
-1993 Nissan 240SX -1995 Nissan 240SX - and probably 4 other 240sx's that I've flipped on CL
-1989 BMW 328is
-1996 BMW 325i
-1998 Lexus SC300
-1997 Honda Civic
-1995 Volvo 850 GLT
-1994 Acura Integra GSR
-1974 Datsun 510
-1988 Porsche 944
-1985 Toyota Corolla GT-S Hatchback - 1985 Toyota Corolla GT-S Coupe
-1992 Toyota MR-2
-2007 BMW 328i
-2001 Honda S2000 - 2005 Honda S2000
-2008 Nissan 350Z
-2005 Honda Civic Si
-1982 Toyota Starlet
Oh you must be wondering how I could ever afford these. Buy 240sx that has been sitting in somebody's front yard for $500. Buy the cheapest tires from Costco or use recycled ones from local shops. Change oil, change coolant, new battery, wash car. Sell for $2500. There was a period of time when I was living out of my Miata after I broke up with my ex. Surprised to find out my entire life fit in that car.
Backstory: I moved out of my parent's when I was 17, I owned the 1990 Miata at the time and lived at one of my friend's for $200 a month until I moved into my girlfriend's place. Worked a part-time job at O'Reilly's and just got real used to driving a multitude of cars. If you're really serious about flipping cars, be prepared to go hungry...
I bought the Nismo when my friend at the dealership told me about the rebates going on for 2008 350Zs. When I stopped by, they offered me 28k out the door for a Nismo with 158 miles. I'm at 17.5k miles now and still stock...

^lol at the 240sx story-
I bought the black 240 behind my wagon/RX7 for $43.00- The cost of a bottle of **** Creek Whiskey.... hahaha
All it needed was a windshield and MAF, and it ran great. Sold it two weeks later for $1800.
I do the same thing- Troll Craigslist/forums/etc for dumb deals and flip um.
I bought my 03 WRX last summer (VF34, Perrin Exhaust, Coilovers, 74kmi) for $3800 from a guy who had to sell it by the end of the week.. sold it for $9000k
I got a similar deal on the current 03 350z...... keeping it for a while tho
And my newest Toy/Gonna flip it after winter- got it 2 weeks ago for $1000.

I'm 17 and I just got a 350 3 weeks ago my last car was a 2000 eclipse and I loved working on it but I always dreamed bout having a 350 so I sold the eclipse and put a down payment on the 350 and I'm currently paying the payments on my own, I don't take handouts, it MY car, so please don't think all teens are the same, I wanna be different. I learn somethin new about cars everyday, it's a passion.

As I am older I can only say that when I was 27 I bought a beater 280zx that the interior was falling apart on and that was around my 12th vehicle. I can't even remember all the vehicles I have owned since I got married 11 years ago.

Been reading these posts for awhile now, feel like I should chime in because my situation has been discussed lol.
Im 22, a 2LT in the Army, bought my Z with the USAA commissioning loan, drove a ford escort before that, so I felt like it was time to move up.
As a single guy on an O1 salary, I don't really see any reason I shouldn't have bought the Z.. Love the car, easy payments, still investing a substantial amount every month. Now for the previously discussed E-3... that might be a different story.

Hmm whats wrong with living with parents at the age of 17? I am welcome in my parents house until I'm out of college, so long as Im not f**king around and actually trying to set up a life. I love the fact that I dont have to worry about house payments and can focus on school. When I move out I will have my life more or less under control. This thread is mostly about kids trying to IMPRESS someone because they have a Z. Fail in my opinion, just enjoy driving a car like this.
