Default Getting cruise control to work on a base.

Im trying to add cruise control to my base model 04 350z. I have already got my steering wheel controls and pedal sensors installed. After I got that done I went to my buddies shop he checked and saw that when You press the cruise on/off switch the ecu recieves a signal for cc but it doesent turn on. I need to know what I am missing to get this working. Ive checked the service manual but It diden't help much.

you will need an ECU for a model with cruise control. they are different. The base ECU's either are not programmed for cruise, or are physically different and cant have cc.

I'v wondered if there is a way to flash an update to the ecu to enable cruise...

Seems you needed to do a little more research before wasting that money and time? This subject has been pretty well covered on the forums and to my knowledge, no one has yet to pull it off.

I drove to and from NY without it once a month for two years. CC is overrated imo.

These is actually some british company that make an add-on CC for the Z. One guy here bought it and got a shop to install it. He never really followed up with pics, reviews, etc. IIRC, it was kinda' cheesy - some add-on buttons to the steering wheel, etc.

You need a non-based ECU to make it work then you have the problem of that ECU looking for TCS/VDC and other features that you car doesn't have.

If you wanted CC why not buy any other model other than base? Either way good luck and let us know how it goes for you.

No one has ever posted up any proof they managed to make this work, probably because no one has ever made it work. And that Brit company wanted a pretty good chunk of change as I recall, for, as mentioned, a pretty cheesy system.

Thanks guys. if i can get this work i will make a diy about it to help people that want to do it. i know that this topic has been discussed before but there are no leads to any answers so far. i hope to get this working soon. There is a guy that i know that could get me all that i need at a good price, so thats not a big deal. So far i have only spent like 130 to get where im at so well see. i might go this weekend and see if the ecu idea works.

I found this article on another forum about adding CC to the Z using OEM parts: http://goo.gl/ykDyF

It's likely to be a bit more complicated, as you'll need an ECU with cruise control, and a few parts. However, you'd get complete OEM integration of cruise into a base.

Edit: Yes I know this thread's pretty old--but the info is relavant!

I don't see any reason why the base ECU is any different so it's possible all you'd need is to use a Consult to flip a bit. I didn't mind the lack of CC for a while. Call me dumb, or daft, I'm finding myself wishing for it.

The ECU doesn't have an "cruise control" on/off bit. If it had, don't you think somebody in the last 8 years would have gotten it done that way? We've had all kinds of Nissan techs and shops here over the years and certainly one of them would have admitted to it if there was such an ability.

I figured most people either didn't care enough to try, was told it was impossible or develop the regret of not springing for an Enthusiast, but that does answer that question. Do you suppose a cruise control ROM could be flashed into the Base ECU?
