Default Probably farewell Z :(

So it was raining hard and I probably hit a white line while down shifting on a downhill S turn. I lost control at about 30MPH and impact was probably around 25MPH. Luckily I hit a tree that prevented me from going down a vertical man made ditch that is about 25 feet deep. I was literally about a foot and a half away from doing that, the front bumper was over the edge. I'm guessing insurance is going to total the car. So that would be farewell to my baby. Thanks to the side airbags, or my head would have snapped off and went flying out the window. I'm walking away fine, my foot has a cut on it and the left side of my face looks like a got punched by a boxer, but that's all.

No I'm not 17. I was driving the speed limit and down shifting to slow down. There had to be something on the road that caused it to happen. It had just started to rain, and I'm guessing the tire hit a patch of oil or something right as I let out the clutch. I just over compensated (having absolutely no drifting experience), and it put me the other way.

hmm....So you do not know that down shifting will cause a car to slip in the rain?

that does however suck.

Face Pix?

just checked my Z's worth, and it just went up!

^Truth^

Glad you're okay.

Think you'll stay in the Nissan family if they total it?

That sucks OP. Roads are the most slippery when it first rains. Downshifting is never a good way to slow your car down as you discovered. That's what brakes are for.

^ I was going to say. I just recently received my class B CDL and that was one thing we were taught. And if you do downshift, ALWAYS shift before you start going down hill. The car doesn't look totaled imo.

OP, just out of curiosity how old are you? Just wondering how bad your insurance rates are going to sky rocket.

What types of tires are on the car and much tread did they have on them?

This is ONE of my questions too! The stockers suck IMO and most summer tires wear very quickly and don't have much tread to start with.

BTW - roadsters don't have the benefit of the curtain bag that saved/jacked your face. Just a side bag on the seat and the front bags.
