I know where the op is going with this...

Folks are scared nowadays!

Scared of tickets

Scared of curb rash

Scared of miles on chasis

Scared of miles on the engine

Scared of paint chips

Scared of cops

Scared of doing 80mph on the highway

Scared of doing 100mph on the highway

Scared of doing ten over on the highway

Scared of losing to another car after installing you new exhaust!

I dunno lately a bunch of geeky motherfcuking buying cars throwing lots of money into thief car tryna be the initial D racer...but can't do a damn burnout!

Crazy I wish there was a track here in Hawaii

Cause the car meets here in are huge and there every Friday rain or shine and it's just a mini car show no one pushes there car

Granted I don't street race...but I do &(&)@)&,!:$;&;@;&(!(&;&;&;&;&;&&&&&/&/@,'in$&!?!"!!83!&@"!($):!? Ncmk

Which that said I understand where the OP is coming from

YOU GET IT! Except for the cops part. Be afraid. They want to get you
I think there is room for everyone. The guy that builds a car & DRIVES it, & the guy that keeps his car in his garage, & drives it on sunnny days. Nothing wrong with having a beautiful car, & taking care of it. There just seems to be to many YOUNG guys that will buy an exhausts for the sound/look of it, instead for the performance. The car that performs, has THE BEST sound, cause that's how it SHOULD sound. If money is tight, & you wish to take care & drive as little as possible, I can see/feel that. If you got lots of $$$ & your car is an 05 with 7k on it I find that Hey, its a free country. If you want that, its ok with me. Did I say free country

Weekend might be more-maybe $30. Raceway park is bettter, but its $40. I do better at raceway park.
What are these "special tires" you speak of?

I think it has more to do with the era/time than age. I'm relatively young and I was always the only 350Z whenever I went to a drag strip (in TX).

I like to drive my 350zr to the drag strip to watch the races, but just dont have the time to build and run a race car. I spend my spare time riding motorcycles and bicycles. Some people are happy just driving around and dont have to beat anyone to have fun.

This is right, seeing this first hand day after day, it isnt surpising, in your area like in so many others doing 80 in a 55 will lose you your car in CT, and 100 will land you with a manslaughter charge. 10 over on the high is meh, depends on statey. Even with all this people still run their cars, but do run the risk.
I know of a 80 year old that comes out with his red 370 to every pike night, a local every Thursday meet, to race. While his new seat of the pants dyno stands true; told him he got more power with the new exhaust. Tries to race those of us that know our cars will obliterate the "out of the box" car. Since we have put the wrench time and money into it. OP you would say that I fall into this new "generation", i would disagree i fall into the category of why risk all my time and money to prove that which is already quite apparent.
When asked to race, since every honda civic owner thinks their Vin Diesel. I tell when the next PDA session is at the local Autocross track, limerock. They refuse, why? I thought you wanted to race.

This is very true, especially in the VW crowd. Slam it, exhaust and walmart tire = MAKING YOU THE STIG.
The days of roasting tires are over, the new generation at least here prefers to do traying,(includes getting fast food trays and putting them under wheels and sliding) it cool to watch, but than again its for FWD only. OP I invite you to come to pike night, about 2 hour drive from Monticello and experience that nothing has changed, just the way its perceived.

I was in Hawaii (lived in Ewa Beach) till I came to CA. We were lucky when they were building HWY 3, we used to do it on weekends. I had a porche then and ran with a group. But we did to the cross the mountain from Leeward to the Windward side on the LikeLike (sp) and that was fun along with the mustangs, etc. But the biggest problem was the police using their own private cars as police cars. That was a major deterrent not to be street racing as far as that goes. Funny though, in my suv I was stopped doing 75 in a 35 crossing over and only got a warning. But with the porche you would get a ticket crossing a white line, or doing 6 mph over any speed limit. So really depended on what you drove on how you got treated back then anyway. It was mainly driving carefully (following the speed limit) except when we got to use the closed "being built HWY 3" and then they let us have our fun. Also being 55mph was the hwy speed wasn't too great either. Now there's Laguna SECA near my home and we go there during the year and of course there's tracks here for people. That is something they need in Hawaii.

Im assuming your referring to Hellaflush/Cannibeat/WrongFitment/Simply Clean people huh? I think the reason you have so much distaste for this generation is due to the fact that those "geeks" are above the desire to do dumb **** to impress people who dont matter. People like good wheels and good fitment and dont stress over whose car is faster. Plus drag racing is for pussies, you can put "Grandma" in a Z06 and she can smash on anyone in a drag race. Looking good and being original takes effort, bolting on an exhaust can be done at the flick of a wrist. Just my .02

Screwing up a perfectly good car can also take effort as shown in this thread https://my350z.com/forum/wheels-and-...s-welcome.html
