From what Ive read these cars and their computers seem pretty receptive to aftermarket exhausts without additional tuning. Is that a fair assumption? Any recommendations in that price range that are DIYer friendly?
you will quickly find out 1500 isn't enough for mods. but this would get you started on coilovers, camber/toe kits, and maybe sway bars (all w/o cost of install). best way to go for performance.
if leaning towards cosmetic, hold on to the money! save for rims/tires and you won't be disappointed. and, you can never do enough research
Save your money for track time then learn how to drive it. Money well spent and probably the most fun you will have. Then you can mod tires/wheels and suspension...
I've responded to these threads so many times. $1500 is barely a drop in the bucket to spread it that thin in multiple directions would be awful.
If I had a stock 05, I would do the veilside replica front and side v1 kit. Find someone selling stock Nismo Rims. Sticky Tires. 10mm spacers all the way around the car.
Then save up for a good suspension setup.
Coilovers
Sways
Front & Rear Control Arms
(upon completing the suspension setup, I would only buy quality bolt-ons. Crawford Headers, Cosworth Plenum, ARC Induction Box, ARC oil cooler, Amuse R1 Titan, Fujibitsu Ti Y pipe, 3.9FD w/ Cusco RS Diff)

I love when people think everyone cares about motorsports and isn't just driving a Z to work everyday.
