Default License plate frame stolen

Well, I got home tonight after a week in Aruba to find that some ******** stole the Nismo license plate frame right off my car. I have no idea when it happened, but I did a thorough check of the Z and it looks like that was the only thing that happened to it while I was away.

The ***hole even left the screws sitting on the ground, and the license plate still on the car. Oh well, I guess I should be glad that that was the worst thing that happened. Could have been a lot worse, I suppose.

Anyone have any suggestions on how to prevent license plate/frame theft? "Plate locks", perhaps?

Here is an idea. How about some superglue on the screws and quickly screw them in.

Sorry to hear man - actually you can get capless screws for your license plate, which require a special tool to remove them... it's mainly cosmetic and it's not exactly foolproof since you can still take them off with plyers... but it's a deterrant nonetheless... and looks better too from upclose IMO

Hm, I will take a trip to Kragen or Pep Boys tomorrow to see if they have the capless screws. Thanks for the suggestion.

I originally considered superglue or loctite, but I'm thinking that there may be a time when I'll want or need to remove the plate for some reason. Plus, since I'm leasing, I'm not sure the leasing company would be too pleased to find out that the car has its license plate permanently installed.

np - If you can't find them at automotive shops, hit up a hardware store... they're actually door/window hinge finishers... but can double as license plate screws (bring your plate screws for sizing)

Auto stores sell bolts that are specifically for what you described. I have them on my car... they are only removed with the special little Allen wrench key that is supplied, and this key has a little hole in the middle that is used to accomodate the little pin that sticks up in the hole of the bolt. Around $3-4, not very expensive and makes the job of stealing the plate holder just a little bit more arduous.

You know guys, thieves are petty minded, and what will mainly happen with capless screws is more mischief. The jerks will want the license plate, they had already set their plan in their heads. Can't seem to do it? Smash stuff until it comes off, or you've the satisfaction of defacing property in exchange for the thwarting of petty crime.

I agree with you there xray2. There's a trade-off when trying to make your car more secure. It's quite possible that if my plate had been bolted on, the thieves would have moved on to something more destructive.

I'm surprised this happened where it did, because we live in a gated community. I can't imagine any of my neighbors doing this, as we're all on good terms, so my guess is it was some dork visiting the complex.

Now find something to stop punks, from jacking the Z emblems on the side.
