Default Some scumbag rear ended me...

And then proceeded to take off...

Happened North bound at 3:15 on I-5 in Everett (Washington) this afternoon... I was stopped... As in not moving...

I couldnt get the license plate.. Then i looked at the picture I took of my rear bumper...

Maybe one of you can help me figure out what the license plate is...

Good news is ther wasnt much damage...
State Patrol was borderline useless...

Sorry to hear that bro, but that would be epic if you can get the plate number from that!

I followed him down the shoulder... but stopped followig him when he started to speed up... I wasnt about to crash my car in traffic over a stupid fender bender... His rear plate was hanging off the truck, hidden by the rear bumper...

The insult to injury, was we both went by a cop (him MUCH faster than me at this point)... I never did over 15-20 tops, as i was letting him get away and decided it was best (and safest) to just call the police and get a report.
No need to go to jail over vehicular homicide for killing someone in an accident over a car.

I got a 560 dolalr ticket for "negligent driving" for "speeding" down the shoulder... I've already called my traffic attorney, who will get the ticket dismissed (for 500 bucks).

Hindsight... just call the police and get a report...
Now I get a ticket/lawyer fee, and a f'd up bumper...

Lessons learned.

But I will call the officer working the case tomorrow, and give them any numbers that can be made out

So you're saving $60 and your driving record by going with an attorney? Sucks :/

I can't believe the cop gave you a ticket.

You don't have the right to break the law when someone hits you. If you violated the road rules, then you deserve the ticket. A hit and run will still be paid by your insurance, although you lose the option to have "his" pay it. But there isn't much you can do, that is how our system works.

tl;dr - don't give illegal pursuits when you get hit, you'll get a ticket.

Ok, here is a mapping to the most likely characters. What we need from you is some better closeup pictures of each digit, taken at bumper level (not down from the top), and then it would help to have an angled shot at about 45 degrees to the left or right with shadows so we can see the indentation surface. In your photo, there are clearly indents, but it's hard to see them all, you just need better photos.

EDIT: even better, take the photos, then take a sheet of white paper and rub a crayon/charcoal over the plate area to make a relief-bias on the paper (ie. a rubbing), and take a photo of that too. I think you stand a good chance of figuring it out.

Best guess: D17A83G. The first five digits are high confidence, the 1 and 7 are the only possible digits. The last two are the hard ones. The fifth character is most likely an 8.

Together with the description of the vehicle, this should be easy, since there aren't many possible combinations.

I was thinking the same thing.

If both the OP and the culprit passed a cop, why not flag the cop and say "yo that dude just rear ended me and he is running off"?

I would have followed him no matter what, with 911 on the other end of my cell phone. Screw letting people get away with crap like that.

6o bucks right away, but insurance rates would go up due to that ticket, so it saves more in the long run.

I followed him to a point, but didnt want to speed down the side of the freeway...

It was stupid of me to even attempt to follow, even if only to get the plate.
