Z Owners with Automatics - How do you like it?
#61
wanted an auto at first because I thought those tiptronic things were cool and I wanted something less boy racer.
Had the car since 2007. Can't complain. I don't really drive it at the track, race or anything. It's been a daily and for that, it's been great! ...especially in traffic jams.
But EVERY big once in a while, I shamelessly act like the auto shifter is a manual, hum the sounds with my mouth, push in an imaginary clutch. I do miss it sometimes. Not really for any particular function or purpose, but just to do.
Next car will be a manual.

Regarding the difference in 0-60 in other cars such as the accura between auto and manual you would be looking at a .3s difference with an experienced driver.
And as was mentioned earlier in this post a driver who really doesn't know what he's doing would probably have a better run with the AT.
I wish we had some actual timed runs with it.
Come on AT guys shed some light

stick, auto. motorcycles everytype I'm 46. I shift them all even
a 1970 chevelle ss 454 I had in 85' it was 3 speed on the tree
and could probably blow away most z's in stock form. So I guess
it wasnt a sports car. Anyways in the Z its great for cruising
and for racing as well. My times are 9.2 in the 1/8 and 14.3 in
the 1/4 and I feel I could do .2 better. I drive stick and auto.
I dont get it why some people get upset or theatened must
have learned stick recently and need to prove themselves.

any ideas on how to prevent this? I already have and oil cooler installed in order to keep the engine temps down, but transmission heat? I've never heard of it? (probably because this is my first automatic car lol)

C'mon guys stop being immature with these comments you can race the auto
all night nothing will overheat. I've beat many stick shift cars. And limp wristed
I only hear it on the forums why never at night or in the gym, grow up you
prove yourself by arm wrestling not typing. Check your city before you say
something and embarrass yourself.

This is ridiculous, I'm out. You're right the auto is better. cruising, racing,
and shifting up or down. You all just don't know how to drive. The signal
delay in the rpm is quicker than the one in your brain to left foot.
At least with these young boys. They learned one thing in man's world
How come no one had this problem when we learned to drive stick at twelve.

Surg have you tracked your car? im assuming you have an automatic....i wanna take mine out to a track day at Homestead motor speedway but im trying to figure out if it will destroy my car or if it will be just as fun and safe as it was in my first car....

I see what you mean, I have been wanting to do the same.
Haven't looked into it yet I probably want to beef-up the
brakes suspension first. I know they do it in homestead
the one in palm beach i think has wider turns and a nice
straightaway but more expensive. I think you should be able
with no problem, just dont over do it. This is my daily driver
so I limit the use.

I do race 1/8 and 1/4 mile over 25-30 times combined. Stock and over 110,000.
miles 9.2 and 14.2 are my best around 4 times each. Now I have some upgrades
plenum spacer, dual exhaust and pulley kit. Going to find out about this track
thing and get this game going too. Had this car for about 7 or 8 months just getting
started. Back roads to can't talk about it, 140 like nothing. And arm wrestling
undefeated. Gotta go guys have fun and stay safe.

A horrible 1/4 mile time? For a stock 2003 auto touring with 113,000 miles.
Does not make sense. What do you think they ran brand new? 14.1 best
dont tell me 13.

One of the guys here in the mid a who actually still has a Z that is stock and I mean stock down to the air intake just ran a 13.8. (2004 touring automatic)
I ran 13.9 in my 2003 base 6mt when it was stock. 14.0 or better is average. 14.2 is slow.

And of course reaction time will matter between 2 cars finishing a race but we are talking about how fast you can drive your car. Not if you can beat the other lane.
Came back when you break the 14 sec mark.

I will. this is a hobby for me I dont even know if this car is running at 100%.
I still disagree that 14.2 is slow I havent seen a stock 2003 do better.
Ive seen later years even G37s do worse, this is florida its cooled down
now in summer we are in the 90's. Look up the stats they are not in the 13's
from factory these are either good drivers or exceptional cars and conditions.
And take into account amount of times raced. If you run 100 times sooner or
later.
