It doesn't. I was actually talking about the smell of a new car...ie...brand new carpet and seats...

Come on you guys, squash must stand for somthing else. I cant imagine a real squash scent in your car. Is like a subliminal thing for the chicks? Like they get in your ride and start thinking that you have this big rock hard squash for them?
Only god knows what the smell actually is. lol. Its definitely not squash. But it is a very "pleasing" smell.

The smell is limonene. It's kind of a chemical similar to acetone, known for causing headaches but it gives off the characteristic smell. Google it. =p

Anyway, I find that I stop noticing the smell pretty quickly. But when people get in my car or I go through a drive-thru, the 1st thing I hear it, "What is that smell? It smells GREAT!"

I also find that the smell is more apparent with the windows down.

Is the air-spencer u got the one that looks like a tape? The thing that gives off the smell is a gel type thing. I've replaced mine so many times because when that container sits in the sun, it shrinks. Could be the reason, idk for sure. Just throwing out ideas.

For the record, if you want what the JDM drifters are buying, look for the one that smells like lemon pie.

Yeah I've never even heard of this stuff, and if it doesnt smell like squash, why on gods green earth would they label it like that? Thats like developing an amazing air freshener and labeling it "baby food puree" or "swiss cheese"

There could be other stuff in the car that is interfering with the squash smell.
Do a smell check. I am not making fun. Happened to me. Turned out I had a milk spill in the trunk from the previous week. Took out the trunk mat, washed it out then bum, my good smell was back

I'm so curious now that I have to get one. Maybe in Japan Squash means PUSS* or something. Now that scent would be worth 15 bucks. And like the real thing you wil never get back what you've invested. here one day gone the next.

It doesn't smell like acetone. Limonene is a chemical that has properties similar to that of acetone. Limonene is usually the main ingredient in these air fresheners. Limonene is occasionally used as a clearing reagent (makes tissue more transparent) in histology/pathology, which is how I know a little bit about it. Some of the cheaper air fresheners (my shaldan) actually say that they use limonene.
