WRONG. If an engines cylinder are divisible by 4 then there is no HP loss through the drivetrain. 4, 8, 12 etc cylinder engines have no loss, only 6 cylinders and those goofy Mazda rotaries experience this.
You guys are way off base, the losses are due to midichlorian in the oil mixture around the cylinders. The best way to avoid this is to use non-binding oil, like type S.
I get it, Thanks. Is that the same with all other cars? Like the 2008 Ford Mustang says it has 300hp, so would the brake horsepower be down as well i assume? I'm asking this because I'm going to race my friends soon and want to know if i'm going to be way down in hp compared to him.
you gotta remember when comparing some cars to each other that some a very under-rated from the factory, like the RSX for example.
same with mazda... used to drive rx8, manufacture claimed 232 hp but many dyno only claim 180whp... accord to few car magazines & some forum in rx8club.com

They could not even get close to advertised HP at the crank - remember, they had to buy them back if people were pissed of enough.
Actually the differential in HP between 287/289 depends which rear wheel you measure on the dyno. A heavier driver will cause the right rear wheel to unload a bit and give a slightly lower HP on the dyno if you measure hp from the right rear wheel. The left rear wheel looses no power through driver cross weight transference. To correct this anomalie, we usually put 150 pounds of jasmin rice in the passenger seat of the Z. For a mustang we do the same, but it's usually uncle bens.

Yea except the point was that 287 is at the crank. Which wheel is measured has no effect what-so-ever.
Mustang guy ehh?
