Z1Auto charges for advice?
http://www.z1auto.com/prodmore.asp?m...ne&prodid=4939
lol, i didn't know people would do that when its free right here
100 an hour!!!!!!!!
"Got a question about a used part you're considering? Need some installation pointers on what other items/parts you will need for that upcoming install? We get these questions all day long...but often from people who never purchased the parts from us in the first place. So, if this describes you, we can still help. Our advise starts at $100 per hour, with a minimum 1 hour charge, maximum of 5 hour charge. We'll help walk you through an install, assist you in scrutinizing that used parts purchase, etc!
Yes, this is serious - contact us to order"
sorry if this was a re-post or not allowed or something

I can't tell you how many times people call us, pm us, email us, etc asking for installation advice on a part they never got from us, or asking us to verify part #'s they got elsewhere. Or my favorite, emailing us an ebay link (that isn't ours), and asking us if that part will fit their car. It's one thing if it's an existing customer, or friend - but when it's random people, it becomes a tremendous waste of time.

^+1 most of my day is eaten up by people explaining a build to me and asking for advice or from people wanting me to diagnose a car I haven't seen, Half the cars i see are total hack jobs with some back yard engineering, for instance running your gauges off airbag's and wondering why their airbag light/gauges arent working

I dont blame Z1, im sure theres alot of idiots who call in with stupid questions, and im sure Z1 has better things to do then do a good deed and help everyone or anyone. On other hand, helping customers with quick tips is a courtesy imo

I wish I could make my work number a 900#. The world is full of stupid people and stupid questions; unfortunately doing things for stupid people who can't do things themselves is what comprises most jobs these day. Therefore answering their questions= potential $.
Still sucks most of the time. I called Z1 a few days ago; feel bad for not ordering anything.

I don't see it as hating at all actually. I understand answering questions is part of what we do, and that's why there are years of posts we've made on this forum alone, answering people's questions to the best of our ability, even when they don't, or didn't purchase anything. We value our customers, and I have no delusions about getting every sale. That's just reality. At the same time, there is a point where a casual question here and there from a non-customer just goes overboard, and we're being asked to basically build their car for them, or make their selection for them, or give them some piece of knowledge we have, when the person is not a customer in the present, or past tense nor do they have any intention of ever getting anything from us. Happens all the time. Few weeks back we were asked to give out a list of part numbers to someone, so the person could "have my friend order the parts from the dealership since he gets xx% off". Well that's great...but then go ahead and ask your friend for the part #'s. Consulting is done in every industry.

If any customer ever has a question about something they got from us, past, present, or future, we always assist
It's sort of akin to:
http://www.roadraceengineering.com/ems.htm
and fwiw, I do refer people to specific threads constantly, which often have direct answers, or at least enough information for a person to draw their own conclusions. What inspired the listing in the first place was a series of emails during a 2 week period late last ear, asking us if certain parts listed on ebay would fit their particular cars. Meanwhile, they weren't our ebay listings at all.
