mine's 003506

I have the Bose enigma and it drives me crazy... filed a report with Nissan (1.800.Nissan-1) and am waiting to be notified for the fix.

The BOSE is a piece of crap that I paid extra for.... what a joke.

Mine has the volume up and down problem even when the car is completely shut off, sitting in the driveway. Say I set the volume to "7". Within 15-20 seconds the volume goes up considerably and I turn it down to "4". Another 15-20 seconds and the volume goes up AGAIN without my touching anything! If I turn it up to "11" (hehe Spinal Tap) the bass will come on REALLY THICK while the rest of the frequencies drop out and then it (the bass) falls off again. Furthermore, between breaks in any given song (a part where all instruments stop for a couple of counts) the volume drops completely and rises again
I also agree with both droidekaus and perfectlyfrank. At first, I thought everything sounded muffled, but the volume gets louder without me touching it as well.

My volume doesn't go up and down, but my Treble does, while playing CD's.

Hope we get a resolution to this problem soon !

It seems that it is a problem for the first 1000 - 1500 vins out there. My vin is 37XX and my stereo is not that bad. No real volume up/down problem but I will admit the speakers are not as crisp as the $2000.00 stereo I put in my convertible Bronco!

The bose stereo sounds like it is made with lower quality speakers so the music is somewhat muffled.

Otherwise....

I LOVE THIS FREAKIN CAR!!!!!!!!!

Default VIN 100732

My VIN number ends in 100732. Here is a copy of the letter I sent to Nissan North America:

-----------------------------------------

Nissan North America
Attn: Customer Service
P.O. Box 191
Gardena, CA 90248-0191

Dear Sir or Madam:

I recently took delivery of a new 2003 Nissan 350Z Touring model. I am writing this letter to let you know of a quality flaw in my new vehicle, which I understand is not unique to my automobile.

The quality of the Bose Stereo system is simply unacceptable. It is the WORST factory stereo that I have ever had in a vehicle. Remember that this stereo is advertised as upgrade to the base stereo. The sound quality is extremely poor – especially when listening to the radio. There is simply no clarity. No adjustments to the bass and treble settings bring the quality into an acceptable range.

Additionally, the auto volume feature is flawed. The sound will change randomly while just sitting still at a stop light. The characteristics of the sound also change randomly.

I am very pleased with my 350Z overall, but the stereo is simply an abomination. I’m sure that if this is not corrected, it will cost you future sales of an overall impressive vehicle.

I would appreciate a response to my letter as my dealer has not been able to give me an acceptable solution to my quality flaw.

Sincerely,

---------------------------

I just mailed the letter about a week ago and haven't heard back yet. Glad to hear that a fix is in the works though.

Default "Sounds worse than my $12,000 Frontier stereo"...

......is what I told Nissan.

Everyone should post their case number along with their VIN. I'm 3903136. It's great to share our acoustic pain with each other but mass complaints to Nissan will get this problem fixed in a hurry.

VIN 1221.

droikekaus,

Mine is 0001xx. My subwoofer is buzzing with distortion whenever there is a low note. I have to turn the bass down all the way and moderate volume just to listen to something. So the sound is as good as a cheap boombox with no bass. What's your symptom.
Same deal here

Yep... ADR 19's They are temporary until I get a set of Konig Verdicts. I say temporary cause they are a bit too narrow. Tires are 235's. rims won't mount up to anything larger than 235's.

When I get the Konig's in the next few months I'm gonna go 245's in the front and 255's in rear.

19's sure fill up the wheel well nicely though!

Here is the reply I got from NNA about an hour ago to a letter I wrote yesterday....BTW..this is the fastest response I have ever received...

"A technical service bulletin has been drafted and the parts for this fix will be available to order in November. You can schedule an appointment with the dealer for November. The dealership will have to order the parts for this fix. It is very important that you set up an appointment with the dealership because the Bose amps will not be in inventory. Also, when you phone the dealer to set up the appointment, please have your vehicle identification number ready so they are able to order the necessary parts for you."

In about a month all our systems should be playable at last

Unhappy bose sucks

The quality of the BOSE stereo has nothing to do whatsoever with your VIN number. I contacted Bose corp and they admitted to a design anomaly. Nissan and BOSE know that the stereo they installed is missing the automatic volume control... this is present in the G 35 infiniti. You should complain to Bose and Nissan ...I am willing to bet we will get new head units

The problem is not in the head unit..it's the amp..the dealer needs your vin number to coordinate the replacement part with Bose..no other reason for the need for a VIN...don't need to complain..just schedule an appointment with your dealer for the fix...simple
