Default calipers rusting after 3800 miles.

04 touring model here.... not sure if calipers are powder coated from factory or if they are just painted... but all the paint on the front calipers flaked off. They are now proceeding to rust and it doesnt look too good.

Kindy shitty if you ask me... had the car for 1.5 months now and my calipers are becoming rusted to hell. I really dont feel like pulling them off to paint them. I checked out some 03 z's with 30k miles or so and their calipers looked brand new.

whats up?

calipers or did you mean the rotors?
rotors usually sut if the car was sitting on the lot. Its pretty common on cars built in #'s to have rusted rotors.
Calipers im not sure tho.

tough to beleive the calipers rust... rotors on the other hand are supposed to basicly. they are made of steel or whatever, it has the highest heat retention, but does rust rather quickly, it doesnt hurt anything, a few rotations with the pad and its gone.

Default No Worries

Its not uncommon for rotors to rust up a little. Rust is just the product of oxidation of metals that are exposed to air and water. Thus if a car is left sitting for a long enough period of time, especially if it is outside, then the rotors will become ugly. But as was previously stated, the rust will quickly rub off with a bit of hard braking. The cars in the pictures you see are just taken out regularly.

shouldn't happen brotha, i would just go to the dealer and ask them, its not normal, something is wrong with the caliper or something, you should be able to get it under warranty

are all the calipers rusting?

Going to try and snag my boss' digi cam tomorrow and snag a pic... if it stops raining that is. I work at a nissan dealership so I am going to stay on their *** until i get some new calipers, or they get these painted or powder coated. Doesn't make much sense to me. Every other Z I have seen is fine and the paint isnt flaking off their calipers.

I have a 96 Jeep with 150K Miles and the calipers haven't rusted despite having been through salty winters each year. That's really strange......

You work at a Nissan dealership?
Develop a good rapport with the service manager and he'll sign off on whatever you want man..
