Default Thinking of buying a 350z this summer

Allow myself to introduce...myself.

I am (22yo) and thinking of getting a 350z this summer (3 months at the most from now). I have wanted/liked the 350z for a long time. When it first came out, it was on the cover of Road and Track as a concept car in 2002 - i instantly fell in love with its design. At that time i was 14, i remember drawing its side profile over and over. I have pictures of 350z's on my wall in my room, and i have built many-a-350z on Nissans website. When i was 17, i went to a Nissan dealer and tried to get a test drive. After annoying the salesman alot, they finally realised i was 17 and said no. Then, they offered to take me for a drive. We got into the Z, and it was out of gas. So, ive never drive/ or riden in a Z. Ive only sat in the pass seat for about 12 seconds. I remember Z's were pretty rare at first 2003-2005, and then 2006-> they are extremely common. I make sure to stare at them whenever i see them, its a habbit.

Anyway, so right now i am driving a 2006 Tiburon SE. My parents bought it for me 5 years ago for $16,500. They have been making payments on it for all that time. I graduated from college Aug '10 and got a job as an engineer at Schramm Inc Nov '10. So, i started making the payments on the Tiburon. Somehow, there is still $7,000 owed on the car, which i figured i would pay all in one big bang. Once i buy the car and take the title, it will be worth about $10,000. I figured because i have to put $7,000+ into it, i might as well pay a but more and get my old dream car. I always hated driving around a car my parents bought me, but i feel better now that i paid 'half', or 3/4 its current value.

I will be looking for a 2004 Tourning 350z in blue. I want to keep the miles under 50,000. (Tiburon has 49). I am expecting to pay under $15,000. As expected, my parents were skeptical at first, wondering why i "wanted a old car" and how much my insurance would go up (called state farm, itll go up a staggering $2 a month). They did the whole "omg playa datz too sporty, u crazy" thing. The issue now is, i will get my 350z money after i pay off and sell the Tiburon. Problem is, once i sell the tiburon i have no car. So, im expecting to rent a car for the time it takes to find a Z *Shiver*. The other thing on my mind, is i will be moving out soon, i want to try and find a town house/apartment with a garage. My tiburon has been out in the rain for the last 5 years, and it shows. My brakes were just replaced because they were pitted and rusted. When i get the 350z im going to detail the living **** out of it, and try to keep it out of the elements. Im not sure i want to mod it much, but, i LOVE the 35th annv. wheels (5-spoke) and i will be def replacing the stock touring wheels with either the 35th annv, or 5-spoke nismo wheels. I really badly want Blue color also, they look really good in blue. Im looking to buy in time for this summer, so 1-3 months in time from now.

Questions:
Will the 05-09 anniversary wheel fit on a 04?
Are 350z's reliable? What parts tend to break on them?
Is the urban dictionary definition for the 350z really true?
Are 350z hugely different year to year? is the jump to a 2005 or 2006 significantly different in terms of parts/design reliability ect.

Thanks

I looked all over the google/ this site and couldn't find anything on the wheels, all i found was ebay saying the wheels would only fit 05+. Searched "are 350's reliable" and found very little. I guess there is no real way to answer that, each car is different.

Also being that you're from PA you will want another car for the winter. The Z is horrible in the snow (some people will beg the differ, me?? no way it sux bad enough in rain) You shouldn't have to hard of a time finding a Z being that it is coming up on summer and people start to sell and either move up or financial reasons. You will definetly find on 04 Z with 30k miles for around 14k

One question? The title and registration of the Tiburon are in whose name?

do it, i was in a similar place last november, and went for it. trust me you wont regret it. also get a 6mt, like said before watch out for the window motors and tranny, except for that the car is very reliable just keep up with the maintence and you'll be fine, and yes the urban dictionary is right "350z - a car that will blow the doors off your piece of s*** mustang."

I was also in a similar situation as you last year. I have a Z now and wouldn't change it.

The title is in my parents name for the Tiburon, once i pay it off, they will transfer it to me. I can pay it off anytime, i will most likely do it very soon to save on monthly interest payments. I will also be moving to my own policy for insurance, which means it will go up from $105/mon to $145.

PA winters are very bad, the V8 AWD mountaineer failed to even get out of our driveway one morning due to heavy snow.

Also, that price point sounds very do-able, and 30k miles sounds very very good for me, i know i will be driving it alot. My freind got his WRX at 85k miles and he worries about putting on the miles so much it kills the fun.

The new 5.0 will step on the gas, stop at Frosty Freeze to get a shake, and still beat you in a race... so no, it is not true.

Sounds like a plan to me. Step one is the title in your name. Without a title you cannot sell or trade the car.

U'll absolutely love the Z man... I just got mine 3 days ago, an 07 Enthusiast. Im 22 just like you. from my research and from wot ive been reading, the window motor tends to go very often so watch out for that... Actually bought mine with a broken driver side window motor, seller reduced the cost. Anyways, best of luck.. Make sure to post pics!

Take a ride in your Z and you'll be faster/better than 9/10 mustangs you run into. So yes, a 04 Z will beat a 04 stang V-6 and V-8 stock. But the real reason I like the Z is not mindless straight line sprints

I'll post pics when I get it for sure.

Can anyone elaborate on the oil consumption issue of 2006? I read that it's a driver related issue due to drivers downshifting to slow the car down. I never drive like that so would I be ok?

Thanks

Should be double-clutching and downshifting to slow down whether your car likes it or not imo.
