Default Terrible gas mileage?

If you top of your fuel tank, how many miles do you, on average get out of your 350z?

I don't know if it's just me, or my Spacer, or my rims (18's), or my head messing with me (me again )because of these insane gas prices, but I feel like my Z is eating up gas like a mother.

I top of my gas tank and I barely go over 200 miles before my light turns on.

Is this normal, or did my mods mess up my mileage.

What does the MPG meter on your dash say? I get ~260 miles per tank with my '08 Z, but the light comes on at least 40 or 50 miles before that. ~16mpg around town.

in cases like this it is 9 out of 10 times operator error. plus the car is not a hybrid, it is a sports car. if you are so worried about gas mileage then trade it in for one.

too many factors in this equation.

do you do mostly city driving or highway?

200 miles per tank is horrible.

ive never seen my gas light come on, but i can get 360 miles on 1/8th of the tank left. I bet i can get 450 if i pushed it.

How many gallons does the car typically take when you fill up after that light comes on? Your gas gauge could just be off.

Miles Driven / Gallons = MPG

Ok getting about 200 miles out of a full tank. I reset it and at about 200miles light goes on, just wondering if this was normal, but apparently....its a taboo question. Lol

Anyway, don't want to keep going after the light goes on so f-it.

Can't remember exactly, 13 or 14. Reset it, and no matter freeway or city....200 miles later another 60 bucks down the drain.

I get an average of 220 miles in a full tank.

I like to step on it and make the engine scream but the mpg is terrible still.

There are some missing factors you need to consider.
I belive i'm having similar issues.

I drive a little over 210 miles before my gas light comes on. I fill up ~10gallons. So i average 21mpg overall. I drive city to school. Highway to work.

My mom also has an 03 Z. She goes 320 miles before her gas light comes on and she fills up 16 gallons. She's still averaging 20mpg.

The weird thing is, when I fill up my gas tank, the car guage tells me I can drive ~340miles.

I'm still getting very close mpg averages, but I know there's got to be something wrong.

I usually fill up the at the 360 mile point and put in 17ish gallons. My low full light is on at 250 , DTE is 0 at 300 miles, i just ignore that crap.

What year Z?

My 03' and our previous 04' averaged 22-24mpg with everyday driving. Driving long distances on the highway-only, it would get 28+mpg.

Our 07' only averages 16-18mpg for the same everyday driving. Your tank is 20 gallons, but it's likely that a) you aren't running it all the way dry and b) you aren't filling it up all the way. If you are spending $60 to fill it up, I assume that's about 15 gallons. That's 13mpg, which is below the norm but certainly possible, IMO, but it also doesn't sound like you have tracked the numbers really well. If you fill it up when the light comes on and it only takes 15 gallons, then you have 5 gallons left. Grab yourself a 1 or 2 gallon gas container and toss it in the trunk. Then drive with the light on for 50 miles the first time, 60 miles the second time, etc., and see how much fuel it takes each time you increase the range you drove with the light on. I think all Zs have the "DTE" feature. If yours still reads a number, even 0, you have a lot of gas left. You can drive at least 20 miles after it reads "----" in my experience.

Your spacer, wheels, or any other unrelated things are. . . well. . . unrelated.

You must constantly be "stepping on it" at 11mpg. I get 8-9mpg at the track, where I am at WOT or 100% braking 95% of the time.

The light comes on prematurely in the early model Zs. I had mine fixed at a local Z shop. If you are averaging 20mpg then yes, you can drive at least 340 miles. I'd try 250 miles, then 300 miles, and see how much gas it takes. If it's less than 18 gallons (tank is 20 gallons), then push it a little more each time (310 miles, 320 miles). As an extreme example, I have gone 500 miles on a full tank of gas in the Z, and still had 2 gallons remaining. That car typically, however, went about 400 miles on a tank during highway commuting.

On 03 and 04Zs, absolutely. Not sure about rev-ups, and know you can't apply the same technique on the 07s. Maybe they fixed the float problem, I just don't know when.

^ welcome to the forum Anthony. But after a while, you will see that the same questions gets asked over and over and it does get annoying. Plus I know davidv has used that picture before.

Overall, #1 rule is Search Search Search.
