I think that by monkeying with the speakers they are missing the point. The problem appears to be entirely with the Bose auto-EQ and leveling system in this car. At times the speakers themselves can sound quite good, but then the HU will goof things up. If they just cut the gain to the sub they will be missing the problem altogether, in my opinion.

My favorite quote from Bose:

If my Bose music system is so advanced, why doesn’t it have lots of buttons, dials, and other controls?
Because we engineer our systems to put the technology on the inside, not on the outside. When you’re driving, you don’t really want to spend time and concentration adjusting lots of controls to fine-tune your car’s music system, do you? The important thing to understand is that what looks simple on the outside is actually much more complex within.

I imagine that it does take significant technology to guarantee that the overall sound is terrible under any condition.

I'm sure someone already mentioned it, but is this problem only with the higher grade Bose in the Touring or is it with the 160W standard radio like the one in the Track as well?

I have a 2003 Nissan 350Z Touring Model with a Bose stereo. The
question I have is, is there any way to disable the auto volume/level function? In my experiance it works very poorly and if you read the various message boards about the 350Z, the overall feeling is the same, very poor sound quality and the auto volume/level is bad. Also is there a line level input (to add a MP3
player etc.)?
Thank you

did that say 120 for each CLARION speaker replacement. Huh!

Also....sooo interesting. Is this true? Clarion makes the head unit for the touring cars. I though that was only for the touring....

what does everyone else have to say about this?

Default Real Problem

I cranked some tunes this evening (around 31 on the dial) and with a CD it actually sounded pretty good. The problem (as has been said many times) is that when the volume level turns down when you stop, it sounds ok at first. Then something sends a signal to the Sub to crank out more Bass, way more than it should. So it is not just the auto volume control (which I could do without) but the sub trying to give us Bass with the volume very low. It turns into a thumping, muddy mess. Maybe with time the Sub will loosen up and sound better. I have heard there are CD's available to do just that for home systems (provide lots of bass signals to the Sub).
