Default Getting a new Remote Control Key?

hey all.. i got the car not too long ago and i dont have a remote control key..

how do i go about getting one (for not too much), and do i just go to the dealer and havem program it? or what's the deal..
also do those open the trunk? and what's the whole thing with the remote control, is it built in and standard?

i'm kind of new to the z.. i'm loving it, great car..

heh by the way .. a total noob question, can one open the trunk from the inside?

i got the touring model.. if that matters..

oh another question.. kinda off topic.. but what does turning off the Traction Control do .. (i assume that's what the TCS Off button is..)

thanks

Hmm, you can probably find some answers in the manual, unless you didn't get one of those either.

I'd say go to the dealer about the remote. Yes it will open the hatch. Not sure what you mean about 'built in and standard'?

Yes, the hatch can be opened from the inside, reach under the strut tower bar (one in the back with the Z on it), find the cord and pull.

To keep it short, TCS off will let you spin the wheels. From your post, I'd say be careful with this...

the cars dont come with a remote control key. they come with one of the fobs. on the fob there is the lock, unlock, trunk, and panic buttons. the key itself looks like an ordinary key, but it has a chip inside for starting the engine.

i know that japan has one of those keys with the remote buttons on the back of it. i heard that it isnt compatible with u.s. cars because of the lack of a chip.

i hope you are right. i wanted one too. from what i understand there is no chip, so you could program the buttons to work, but the key will be unable to start the ignition.

here is a thread about this topic.

https://my350z.com/forum/showthread....0&pagenumber=1

there are a few more floating around but i cannot locate them at the moment. anyways, it always ends with, "it wont work"

well i dont need the actual key.. sorry.. i prolly phrased my post wrong, heh i didnt expect there to be an actual _key_ with lock/unlock features...

what i meant is a FOB like remote... just a remote that opens/closes/trunk/panic with no key to actually start the car.

sorry for not clearing this up...

Sure hope you did not buy new from a dealer; if so go back and demand the manual AND the key fob - they are "standard equipment" on all models. Also, I agree: leave the TCS ON! at least for a few months!

You bought the car without Key fob and manual? No offense but I would guess you stole the car. We are helping a criminal here.

God I hope this guy bought the car used cause for a dealer to not give the 2 key fobs, 3 keys and manual is crazy. So to the original post, if all you got was one key, just know that there is somebody out there in the world with 2 remote fobs that can open up your car and 2 keys that can start your car as well. Good luck man!!!!

Mine started life as a dealer demo. Had 4K on it when I got it. They had to get me the extra fobs, keys, manuals, and oh ya, you guys better throw in one of those 100K warrenties. Thanks.

Go to a nissan dealership. Order a keyfob (or two). When the dealership receives them, you take your car in and they have to program the keyfobs to your car (they'll probably want to keep your car for a couple hours to do it). The keyfobs are definitely not cheap.

courtesy nissan also sells the key fobs. they also have the instructions on how to program them yourself on their web site. maybe you can buy the fob from somewhere else if they can get it cheaper and then use the instructions from courtesy. i dont know. try performance nissan and ask them how much they would sell the fobs for. most of their parts are cheaper. tell them you are a my350z.com member.

courtesy's link for fob. also, on that page there is a link for the instructions on how to program your fob.

direct link to instruction.

They are cheap on ebay!

Search for Nissan Remote. You can program remote yourself, very easy. I can tell you how if you get that far. That will save you some money. Here is what you are looking for:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...category=33723

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...&category=6763

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...category=33723

If you get an extra key then you will need to have that programmed by the dealer. They are the only ones who can program the Immobilizer chip in the actual key to the car.
