Default Is this a big deal?

Hey guys, just bought my 2006 Touring Coupe literally 6 hours ago. The car has 50k miles on it absolutely mint condition perfect, it must have been owned by some old lady or something because the paint, wheels interior everything is perfect. I did notice one thing though, its when i put it in first gear or just sitting in idle theres this weird sound that sounds like a cross between something dragging on the ground and a garden hose on full blast hitting a metal bowl....the car is still under warranty for 60 days so its not a problem getting it fixed but i really need the car for work...and it must have just happened because i had my mechanic check the car out on a lift and everything and he even took it for a drive.....is this something i should be worried about?

Post #17 should help you out.

Ultimately, it's up to you to decide if it's this or something else, and also if you're willing to accept it or not... hope this helps!

If it sounds like a rattling teapot, you might have a problem (hard or easy to fix).

Do these things and report back:
(1) Look at the inside of the tailpipe - is it mostly coated with dense black soot or black oily stuff, or it is mostly metallic and clean looking? 2005-2006 are infamous for it, but it shows up 2003-2007 regularly. Nissan usually replaces the short or long block under warranty.

(2) When you drive around in first gear with the window down, do you hear a whirring or loud spooling-like sound from the underside of the car? If so, it may be the common tranny failure (manual only). Drive quickly through all the gears, do any catch or grind?

Yea its a 6-speed, and it does sound like a rattling teapot. None of the gears grind but i dont know what you mean by catch. The transmission feels mint to me, its buttery smooth. I guess ill just take it to the dealership next monday to find out what it is

lol....if it just rattles while in idle then your exhaust shield has probably broken someplace.

go to a local mech and have then throw it on the lift. or jack her up yourself and slide under to see. or swing over here and i'll check it for you since i am in NJ.

I also suggest taking a look at the exhaust shield, or something exhaust related.
