Stolen Brembos to 44203 please?

Seriously I think you've figured out by now that this was an absolutely horrible idea in the first place. The value of the parted vehicle could be 300% or it could be 40%. It really depends on how long you're willing to wait for the right buyers.

I purchased a 350Z: I put down a deposit and spent years paying it off.
Ok, so at this point you have the title in your name, free and clear. (right?)

Back at the time, I had a had a few speeding tickets, so I made a deal with a then-friend of mine that I'll pay him a bit of cash in exchange for him registering the car under his insurance.
Ok, so my question here is: what did you do to get him on the title? Did you sell him half the car that you owned free and clear? Did you record the title with his name at the DOV? How did you add him? Details please, including if he just signed the paper title.

It's actually 100% legal - as long as his name is on the ownership, he can insure it and I'm automatically covered as a driver as long as I have a valid license.
You will find that that isn't true - if the insurance company knows that he is allowing another driver to use the car as a daily driver rather than as an occasional use, they can deny the policy.

So everything went well up until I decided to sell the car. As you can already guess, my friend turned out to be no friend at all - his name is on the ownership and he won't let me sell the car! ... So even though both our names are on the Bill of Sale, because after the fact we decided to put his name on the ownership
Huh? You said earlier than you paid off the car, free and clear. Did you write up a Bill of Sale and sell him a part interest in the car? What does that bill of sale say he owns? Is his name on the DOV registered title (what you call "ownership")?

If you are co-owners of the car, then the transfer of title to him is key for figuring out what his property interest in the car really is. If he, for example, got the title by paying you half the car, then you owe him half if you want to sell your interest in the car. If you gave him title WITHOUT any money paid (ie. no exchange of consideration), then you can have his name voided from the title because he didn't give you anything in exchange. However, you told us that there is a Bill of Sale.

If you really want help, explain the situation and answer the above questions. They matter.

I love irony. You tried to beat the system because you didn't want to pay higher insurance costs and now you're paying the ultimate price - losing the car.

I'm closing the thread because it's already degrading into a "sell me this", "how much you want for that" sales thread. OP, if you want to part it out, post it in the marketplace.
