how much to spend on another DE motor??
#4
i dont think its high but if hes got best offer...im not the one to give top dollar on it, id say if he lets it go for $1000 and i drive to get it, would that be worth it?? i kind of think so, and i think typo on miles, actually 73k, not a super diff. but little bit. now im thinking about how much more to invest to rebuild??
thanks.
thanks.

I have several on here...cant access photobucket at work to link you.
I have been to a few shows. Car hasnt really run o nthe road for the last year..less than 500mi.
Selling because I have a built motor in my car and no longer need my original.

OP, buying as cheap a unit ( like the ones mentioned above) is your best bet if you plan to build it.
On your question of price? Well obviously the skys the limit, why not build a Crower stroker etc.. but realistically, youre looking at about 3 grand for some CP pistons, crower sportsman rods, new bearings, cometic gasket, arp head studs, etc.. then youre looking at 1600 in machine shop labor to balance deck hones and micropolish.. then theres the heads.. you want new seats and seal? New springs? Basic clean and zero miles work.. basically a built engine is usually about 6 grand. You jsut need to decide if its gna be turb o r not before you order rods and pistons ( compression at 11:1 na or 8.5:1 FI).
I believe the core charge is generally about750 800 bucks as long as you send in adecnt block and crank.. or jsut pay the core and have it outright.
Unless youre a machinist or mechanic, it may not make sense to slowly build an engine. you can slowly compile parts i guess, but it whe it comes time to machine, its all er nothing kind of.
jsut my 2 cents, as i went thru this recently. ( actually I still am).

but would it not make sense to have 2 engines? besides the other taking up space, i have a truck as my dd, but in case something happens to the built motor, i can have a back-up one if i want to getR back on the rd fast.. just thinking about it all
and i have a good friend thats a mechanic also, so that would b super helpful

id say 98 percent of the ppl on here are in the same boat.. watch how many emails you get during 9-5 from thread replies.. and it drops off 100% as soon as ppl get home during evening hours.

Meh, if you do some research, the studies show that American productivity isn't actually that bad, and Americans work more hours than their foreign counterparts. You have to remember that in France, for example, they get about double the weeks of vacation. That and they are less productive in the hours they do work.
My theory is that we have just become used to criticizing people for not being perfectly efficient all the time, and technology lets us see the slack. (ie. facebook) In prior times, people made a lot of phone calls and read books on the job, etc.

sittign at work here reading this...
+1 to you can pretty much only collect parts, once its time to build you kinda need to do it all at once and have a goal in mind.
It is def a good idea to have a second engine if you want minimal downtime, and then also once you swap in the built motor you can keep the stocker as a spare to throw back in in case somethign goes awry
