I also have the same Passport Escort ^
I've had mine for almost two years now?
It DOES help, just not all the time.
It has saved me a many times when I didn't even realize I was speeding.
There's a speedometer thing in the parking lot at my job.
Sometimes my radar doesn't go off and yet it still shows numbers
Another time, I was on a very straight freeway.
I saw the Stater from farrrrr away sitting on the side of the road, I was in the slow lane.
My radar was not going off.
I made sure I was going only 60 when passing by.
A Volkswagon to my left must not have been paying attention.
Probably only going 65?
The Volks was easily in one car length this whole time when we passed the Stater.
The lights go up.
Knowing my luck, I thought they were going to point fingers at me .
The Volks slams on his brakes (too late for him) and gets behind me to pull over.
My radar is still quiet at this point.
I continue driving, knowing I did nothing wrong, my radar finally goes off when i'm like six+ car lengths away.
Wtf?
The scary thing is.
I pass by law enforcement on the side of the freeway and highways very often and my radar doesn't go off.
My 30 minute commute to work is swarmed with sheriffs, state patrol, and highway patrol.

My girl lives 15miles south of me and anyone who know's the Turnpike south between Miami and Campbell drive(exit 2), no one goes less than 10-15mph over. State Troopers frequent that area... it has worked 100% of the time even when they use Laser. I have a V1 and it's entertaining to the say the least, I actually follow the arrow's when I pass the police.

btw I love my radar detector. I would estimate it has paid for itself at least 6 times.

I have the escort 8500 and so far it has worked wonders for me. the only thing that gets really annoying is out of no where it will beep really load and say laser then it turns off and turns back on. I dont have the manual for it so i dont know what it means. if any of you guys out there have the same please let me know what you do in that situation.

I have the V1 and although it was costly it's definitely one of the best detectors out there. Thinking back now, I can't believe I paid so damn much for it, but it's functions are amusing to watch and has alerted me numerous times to hiding officers.
Radar jammers is something I probably wouldn't even bother messing with, as they are illegal in all states.
Laser jammers, depending on where you live, may be worth getting. I've wanted one for a while, but figured the best way to save on buying one and tickets is just not to speed, or at least in observed areas.
The key is not to leave the jammer on once it's alerted you to it jamming. Once it goes off, slow down, turn it off, and allow the officer to get a reading on you. Otherwise, as mentioned above, you'll probably get pulled over for interfering with their work or equipment.
For detectors, escort and v1 are good brands. They don't give you a free ride to speeding, but they help. Also, depending on whether the local officers use laser or radar, getting a radar detector where they use laser might be useless. Even though the detectors pick up on laser, by the time you register that you've been hit, they already have your speed.

I've had mine go off and 30-45 second later pass a cop sitting off the side of the road. Nobody was in front of me so I'm not sure what he was shooting.

K40 RL100.
Its very quiet, looks very simple and clean, not like a space ray gun.
its 349 in most places amazon etc.. and retails at 500 and some change.
install it w a joycrafts mount. 60 bucks.
It is a great GPS radar detector, and is nearly silent all the time. It learns spots that false and after three falses, deletes them from its map... so its quiet. When it goes off youll pay attention to it.
Laser: if youre hit, youre dead, and you may be subject to nastiness and fines.
The general concensus from even K40 reps is When you detect laser, youre already pegged. Thats why the K40 will pay the ticket for you in year one, and thats why i posted this.
check it out.
1300-2200 for good jammers systems btw.

I have had a radar dectector since i started driving, (about 4 years) and i have not had any speeding tickets, i have a dector that is around $200. It picks up signals id say a lil less than a mile away and about half a mile behind.
