Default will the waiting cause you to look at other cars?

Well my delivery had been September, but still no VIN so it looks like October. This delay for me is getting on my nerves.

On the brite side I can see what kind of issues the early owners have with the Z.

Also as time goes by other cars are going to hit the street. Namely the Z4, STI, and EVO. ? RX-8.

Is anyone tempted by one of these?

Any other ideas?

My point is what if another 4 weeks turns to 8 weeks and the snow starts to fall?

Oh yeah!!! Did the math today and found a 93 RX-7 R1 for 13K. Add a few grand in mods to it, and you have a KILLER streetable car. VERY tempting, but I'll find a way to wait...

There's just no justice in people who ordered in March getting their cars already...

Dont buy a 1993 RX-7. Most are lemons. Many have engine and electrical problems. Check out Ebay. Half of those have had their engines replaced at only 60k miles or less.

Not only that, but it seems like there are dozens of cars in showrooms already with no owner. What happened to the pre-order system? Seems lika a giant loophole. It's not like I'm against other people getting the Z, but every bogus pre-order means us real pre-order people are being screwed and delayed.

Well delay me too long and I WILL find another ride. Nissan should take this into consideration. Sure I love the car, but that doesn't mean I wouldn't love a Z4 or M3 just as much.

Just remember a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.

It's not Nissan's fault that there are a lot of people who put down a deposit but aren't buying the car. I'm actually surprised that it's so many. We've had probably 10 or so people on this board who have backed out.

You're right though, it does kind of delay our car's arrival.

I'm concerned about some of the issues people are having with paint orange peel to be exact.

I've looked at 3 cars seriously during my wait.

audi tt roadster, scared of reported problems with it.

C5, not much room in foot well, plus the wife hates vettes and any ways I wouldn't have enough money left over to get a couple of gold necklaces to go with it

S2000, this one I like a whole lot if the 350z comes in with lots of orange peel I get a 03 s2000 as soon as they are available.

If the 350z is everything I expect it to be I'll get it and then get the s2000 next summer.

I'm really not to excited about the rx-8 but a rx-7 would be nice if they ever bring them back here. I bought a really clean rx-7 earlier this summer to get me by till the Z came in. I have to say it's the best built car I've ever owned, and it has excellent paint.
I hope I can say that about the Z

Don't forget the Z4 it will be a bit roomier than the S2000 and a brand new design. I guess a few hundred pounds less than the 350Z, but with less hp.

Not tempted by those. The only other cars that are tempting to me will take longer to arrive than the Z (e.g. the C6 Corvette in 04, and the Supra V8 in who knows what year). Everything else that is desirable is at least twice the price. Not worth spending an extra 30K to 40K because the Z may arrive a month later than anticipated. I think Nissan has a head start on this market segment now.

I have a sneaky suspicion that some less-reputable dealerships decided to put some straw-man orders ahead of the legit pre-order candidates. (interpretation for the dense: all sales guys line up and "order" a car which we will take delivery on before anyone else's cars, and then sell at a monstrous profit to the public.)

My friend kind of found out today that his order (allegedly placed on 1/15) ended up at the bottom of the stack, with a ton of other orders ahead of his. (although the dealer said he was third in line to order a Z car.)

Dealers are opportunistic people...

I was looking at a '00 vette which is about hte same money as the z I ordered. I'm sort of backing out of that idea cause everyone tells me the vette is a hunk-o-crap.

I'm not looking at any other cars, but am getting frustrated with this pre order process. I am very close to hanging it up and walking on my Z. I have no VIN and no clue as to delivery - probably November!! If the dealer gives me much trouble, I will be very tempted to tip over his desk and walk out the door. One major reason for not doing that is that he will just sell it to someone else and make a pile more $$.

The stories of happy Z drivers help, but then I read about folks who just walk in and take over a pre order car. I envy their good fortune, but it raises my frustration level right back up.

Default Z4? and etc.

Isn't the Z4 only available as a roadster (convertible)?

I don't want a convertible so that's out of the question.

Believe it or not, I considered the M coupe (it looks weird but better than the lame run-of-the-mill M3 look).

All the hype over the 350Z and now all the people talkinga bout getting their cars is making me run out of steam.

I'm supposed to get my vehicle by thursday but I'm about all out of excitement. It better come in on it's ETA or I'll go out and drive the M couple again.

Does anyone know, is the M coupe as fast as the M3? Isn't it the same engine?

Assuming you're talking about the current models, the M coupe has the same engine but a different exhaust system due to fit issues. It makes 18 less horsepower than the M3 but performance is at least as good due to its lower weight.
