Who else Hate the expression "ricey"
i think the unessary Emblem should be on the ricey list, like that guy from RX-8 forum (thread posted in Vehicle section) about the guy with red RX-8 puttin a Ferrari badge on the side of his car.
i think tha should be consider ricey bcuz he's tryin to be somethinghe's not, tha goes to other people who puts Mercedes Benz, Bimmer, Lambo etc badges on their honda/GM/toyota/nissan cars

Rice, Pasta?? How did this discussion come about anyways? Don't you all know that a low-carb diet is the way to go? According to www.ricecafe.com 90% of the calories in rice come from carbohydrates. Stay away from starches! RIP Dr. Atkins
I agree that "rice" is probably used too much.
However look what happens when "rice" and "bling" come together!

To me rice is when
-people poke a hole on their exhaust to make it sound loud.
-they put a fake intercooler in front when they have no turbo.
-they put super whites so it'll look like their cars have HID.
-they paint their hubcabs to make it look like rims.
-they put gauges inside their car that absolutely serves no purpose.
-they put stickers of a product on their car they don't even have.
-they put a huge sticker behind their car or anywhere else that reads the name of the car they own (ex. a big a$$ H sign at the back for Honda; yes, I see that here sometimes!).
-people put "type R" on a car that is lower in performance or "type S" on an RSX when it's not even a type S.
-people put a bodykit to make it look like a totally different car. I've seen a post here showing a Civic with a bodykit that made it look like a Beamer.
-people put chrome spinner wheels on an Accord
(I actually saw that today. Yuck! Was that even rice? More like a cross between rice and bling bling.
-people put too much LEDs on their car to the point where the car looks like it can light up the whole Time Square in NYC.
-when people put those tacky looking taillights (clear ones) on SUVs! Their original ones look 100x better than what they replaced it with.
I could go on and on but I'll leave it here for now...

You mentioned that certain cultures involve rice and go on to say many people say they eat rice. Therefore, wouldn't their culture involve rice as well? You then made the generalization that rice is specific to Asians. I find THAT offensive. I've eaten plenty of dishes from around the world that include this interesting substance.
n1x0n - I agree, but the post by Jason said it was offensive to Asians, thus making the generalization himself...
Has it occurred to anyone that "Ricey" could be someone's name, seriously? It is simply being ignorant, insisting to use the term as a negative reference.
Just an FYI, the US is a major exporter of rice, and be informed that one of the best grain comes from the US.

My earliest encounter of the word "rice" was probably a decade and a half ago...when the import scene wasn't where it was today.
You had real racers ...then you had posers who dressed their cars up, but the car never demonstrated any performance capabilities.
I heard someone go...
"He's not a racer! He's a ricer!"
This word is pretty lame today especially when punks who know nothing about cars or the hobby...go around and use it freely. It's become a generic thing and whoever uses it...I kind of discredit their opinion...or not take what they say into account.
Alot of folks deny the racial roots of the word "rice" in this automotive subculture but I swear if anyone ever pointed at me or anything I owned and called it "rice" I would knock them the f*ck out and plant my size ten on their forehead.
Sure it's harmless word...say it as you please on a car forum but I know people who would get totally offended if you said it to their face.

Im glad 360zzz and 350zephyr understand.
Exactly, it is being ignorant especially since it is rarely used as a positive reference. I honestly dont mind when people use it here and there especially on forums, but there are definately times when it gets out of line and old as well.
I think deep down people know who these terms were really meant for.

First of all, your response was not only unfounded but also uneducated. You are taking what I gave as a necessary condition and misinterpreting it to be a sufficient condition. So youre saying that just because some people eat rice its involved in their culture? I eat pasta is it part of my culture? NO. Just because you eat something does not make it your culture. It goes futher than just eating it. For example, to Italians there is a long history and tradition behind pasta. You wanna talk about offensive....I find your stupidity offensive.

Ignorance huh - Well you just shot yourself in the foot on this one. You post about how 'rice' and 'ricey' are offensive words to a specific culture, then go on to say you "honestly don't mind when people use it here and there"
You are an interesting character. BTW, thanks for giving me something to do at work today. It's rather slow.

Calm down fellas!
Connotations of the word 'rice,' or Connotation of any word/term for that matter does not necessarily have to be negative. My point is why anyone would use the term/word Ricey (no such word) and associate it with a negative reference? What is it with the term that would even suggest a negative implication?
Personally, I couldn't care less if someone insist on infusing a negative connotation to a "make-up' term like "Ricey;" but definitely it would reflect on one's ability to express oneself.
all said and done, it is definitely not a worth while issue for anyone to fight over.
