Default Who else Hate the expression "ricey"

im kinda sick and tired of people saying that things are rice

if people dont like something then they should just say that they dont like it

i mean..people use the word so freely lately it just pisses me off

since its such a free for all

i think that your shirt is ricey..and i think that your stock Z is ricey

...however much that just pissed you off is an indication of how much it ticks me

the only things that can be called ricey are underbody lights..LED windsheild pieces and muffler tips

anyone else want to contribute to the RICE LIST

the rice list will consist of unanimously deemed rice mods

if something is not on the list...but you still dont like it..just say you dont like it

1. Neons
2. Muffler tips
3. Led windsheild squirters

Exposed carbon fiber is ricey (indicative of a rice burner). Hmmm... what else. Unpainted body kit, painted brake calipers, top fuel wings, stupid seatbelt pads, vinyl graphics, light up valve stems, and basically anything that makes a car look like something it's not (racecar, fast), or is just in plain bad taste.

Ricey does get thrown around a lot, but it describes a whole nation of tasteless cars and drivers.

I agree it's probably an over used expression. But hey, I don't like ricey cars or mods!

So if we can't call ANYTHING rice anymore, what do we call this?

Yes i am real tired of ricey...especially when people's opinions vary about what constitutes rice.

Stickers aren't ricey...they may be annoying to you but I'm sure the owner wanted to impress you. They may sometimes be real tacky. Besides, even the musclecar crowd sports the K&N or STP or Borla stickers so what's up with the racial undertones of "rice"?.

stickers are borderline..i dont particularly love mine...exposed CF is definately NOT rice..unpainted body kit is (unless its cf)...seatbelt pads arnt necessarily rice (some are)

unpainted CF happens to be the most controversial one...im not saying everyone should love it...but it sure as hell isnt rice

LOL corny and ricey... When's dinner. I think SOME stickers are rice. If someone puts stickers on their doors for products that are installed on the car, then they better be there to represent on the track. That's what those stickers were made for - ADVERTISEMENT, and that's what they should be used for. If you're trying to advertise on your daily driver, then you are suspect to me.

I do think some stickers/vinyl looks good though. What's your rear window sticker hava?

As far as definite rice, most vinyls, definately underbody, GREAT call on the unpainted body kits. Spoilers that are too ridiculous, interior neon.

ok ok...i never wanted the stickers...but im sponsered by evo-r

rear says www.evo-r.net (sticker happens to match my body paint)

im the first to admit that my stickers are a bit much...but wtvr

as far as rediculous spoilers...even if someone puts on that hideous wings west one i still wouldnt call it ricey...i would just tell the guy that i didnt like it

i dont like some of the mods people do...i actually never voice negative opinions...but i never think to myself "rice"

I too do not like the term "rice" but not for the same reasons as havabooz. I think its a little offensive, especially to people whos cultures involve rice. I know many of you would say "hey I eat rice" but we all know thats different. Specifically to asians this is a little offensive. Especially because it is used as a negative term. Im surprised that no one thought this was a little racist. Im also wondering how the term "rice" came about. Why use the word rice?

I'm Asian, and the term "rice" doesn't bother me too much. I only get offended when people just use the term freely.

Anyways, my definition of "rice" is any car that pretends to be what it's not. The thing that annoys me most are those cars that use exterior parts from other cars...
I've seen a lot of Eclipses with Silvia headlights, and even Integras with Skyline headlights.

I have no words for these pretenders though, especially for that "blower"........?

'Ricer' probably came about when a generalization was created that the majority of people that add *bling* to their car that is sorely lacking performance (what I feel ‘ricing’ is) are Asian. It just shows itself as another stereotype and racial comment that has become mainstream and accepted in casual talk throughout several age groups. To a certain extent I think it shares characteristics with the infamous word ‘gay’ that appears to have universal application. Some think that the English language is actually evolving to express itself with less and less words, while still maintaining sufficient meaning given the context. IMO, too many of my friends cannot or choose not to express themselves more clearly by using words that are above a grade 7 intellectuality.

Is it really that offensive? Come on, I'm half Japanese and laugh at 'ricer' Civics with my Asian friends whenever we get the chance. I also make fun of my dad for owning such an elaborate Home Theatre setup. And he doens't care...

You mentioned that certain cultures involve rice and go on to say many people say they eat rice. Therefore, wouldn't their culture involve rice as well? You then made the generalization that rice is specific to Asians. I find THAT offensive. I've eaten plenty of dishes from around the world that include this interesting substance.

Is it offensive to all grain-eaters if a picture is 'grainy' and of poor quality?

Give rice a chance.

*Edit* - You guys type too quick, I lost my place in line, response meant for Jason

That's the point ShoveIT, 'ricer' refers in a pretty much direct term with "the generalization that rice is specific to Asians." Problem is, I'm sure more people around the world eat rice and I've seen very 'riced out' cars owned by guys that are certainly not Asian.

n1x0n - I agree, but the post by Jason said it was offensive to Asians, thus making the generalization himself...

I've added my new avatar in honor of this thread.
