Default what does the z redline at?

on the rpm guage its says that it goes to 8000 but when i hit 7000 it already starts to choke. it wont even let me go to 8000. so does that mean it redlines at 7000 instead of 8000 or is something wrong w/ my car?

REDLINE is at 6500!!! 7000 is the REV LIMIT! ... you're basically destroying your engine

6600 is redline. 6900 is the rev limiter. I dont think it will destroy your engine if you hit the limiter rarely. I rarely go to redline.

Redline is at 6600rpm and the cut-out at the same revs. That's at least what my car does and what my manual says.

The autos cut off at 7100 rpms. I have shifted to 7000 quite often with no problems what so ever (manual mode). Now when I floor it in normal mode, the car shifts past the redline on the tach. In between the 6600 and 7000 rpms.

Not now but if you keep trying to get to 8000 there will be!

There's nothing wrong with your car. What these guys are trying to tell you is that when your car "chokes" as you say, it is actually designed to do this. The rev limiter cuts off fuel to the engine so you DON'T continue into the danger zone.

The tach (the gauge itself, not the engine) goes to 8000 only for symmetry. In other words, just for looks. If they stopped putting numbers on it after 6600, it wouldn't look right so they just put the numbers on it up to 8k. If you look at the RED part of the gauge it starts at around 6600. That's why it's called REDLINE!

I sure hope you're not within your break in period (the first 1200 miles). You should stay UNDER 4000 RPMs for the first 1200.

Now this is a guy who could definitely use an S2000 or RX-8 if revving high is his game.

revving all the way to 10k.

this thread should be retitled "Hi, i'm a noob", or "hello, i don't understand the basic concept or redline".

S2k redline at 9000 last I saw; and the 04s are only 8000.

if you go by what I suppose is the majority experience; the auto redlines at 6900 in manual mode. the manual redlines at 6600 on the dot.

no clue why they are different; it is the same for the G35 as well it seems. and it may account for why the autos are getting times very near that of the manuals.

thank God we don't have to rev the engine that much to feel the power. Man, i remember when i had my civic Si, reaching 5500rpms (VTEC engages) was highlight of my drive, all the way up to 8300rpm. Now the Z pulls from the beginning, no waiting for VTEC, but all the torque makes up for the VTEC effect.
