VIN Database
I don't know if this has been done yet, I thought of an idea to put our cars into a database. I like to make it if it works out. I'd like to have everyone that has a 2003 reply to this post with this info:
Vin #: JN1AZ34E63T008224
Miles:82,000
Model: Touring
Exterior Color: Super Black
Interior Color: Black
Seat Color:Burnt Orange
GPS: yes
Side and Curtain Airbags: yes
Transmission: 6MT
How many owners?:2
my old Z:
Vin #: JJN1AZ34DX3T102906
Miles:87,000
Model: Enthusiast
Exterior Color: Redline
Interior Color: Black
Seat Color: Black
GPS: No
Side and Curtain Airbags: No
Transmission: 5AT
How many owners?:5
I'll prob make it in word. If you have any ideas let me know. Thanks

well how do you use the NNA? I guess I wanted to do this to see what cars came with from the factory. when I had a S2K we started doing this. Last night after doing this post I went on to autotrader and started putting them on my list. I have lots to do.

The biggest problem with something like this is long term maintenance. It needs to be a database. A forum such as this doesn't have a generic database capability. You really need something that people can input the information into, maintain it themselves over time, etc.
All you will wind up with is a flat file that one person maintains until he gets tired of it or sells his Z and leaves - never to touch it again.
You also have the problem of participation - the Z is almost 10 years old. The high initial level of interest is gone. What percent of Zs do you realistically expect to capture? 10%? Too many are owned by non-enthusiasts who will never visit this or any other forum.
BTW - you can't trust what is listed on Autotrader and dealer postings. They are notoriously inaccurate. Most cut and paste the same description for multiple cars.

yeah I've noticed that the vins are different on the few cars that I have done so far. Its to bad that the Z has lost its enthuiaism<sp>. I guess I'll just forget it.
