lowest I've seen my Z on my digital gauge was reading 2-3 mpg. But I was also going around a Track tho to lol But seriously under normal citing driving I don't recall my Z ever going below 14mpg. Highest I've hit was 30mpg all highway and one friend of mine with his SC vortech got 42mpg.....

True.
The short diatance and resetting odometer/calculate is the way to tell. Do u not let the car warm up before u drive? Especially begin that cold out? I wouldn't do that at all. And its not that cold here.

Could be the tires you're using as well. Heavier wheels and stickier tires equals less MPG.

I reset the odometer today and drove for 2 minutes and idled for 5 - It said I was at 2MPG. I reset it again, went on the highway and drove for about 20 minutes with minimal idle time, I got 20 MPG. So needless to say, idle time is calculated into our odometers.

Either do the gas fillup/calculation method or use your GPS to calculate it.

Never expect decent mileage from short drives.

Don't think I have ever seen mine below 17 but it usually sits around 20-24.

My daily drive is 10-15 miles each way though.

Since we don't have a real time reading, the gauge reset while (steady state)driving can give you an idea. My Juke has real time, even with the cruise control set, it is all over the place.
^ THIS. It is supposed to take idle time into account or you wouldn't get an accurate reading. Do it manually as described above and you will be pretty damn close to the computer. Just be sure to reset it when you fill up so that you are averaging your mileage per tank vs. since last reset.

This car doesn't get a lot of highway mileage anymore, as I'm in a college town. Dealer said everything on the car looks fine (air ratios and whatnot) It is cold here right now (30 degrees)
Short stop and go milage and little FWY (sustained driving) will give you that MPG. That's what I get. Do this simple test. Reset the computer for MPG and drive it on the FWY at a steady 65 or so for 20-30 miles. You should get 23-24. If it's much less, then you have a problem.

When you car is cold, it dumds more gas trying to get the motor to operating temp, when your trip is 2-3 miles you are in that mode the whole time. Typically i average 23 with mine (a bit less with the GT wing now) but over the summer I went to a school for 6 weeks where my daily drive was 2 miles each way, with a 25 mph speed limit. With only going to school and not leaving the base i averaged 12 to 13 mpg.

Stop and go burns gas
Open loop operation (not warmed up ) burns gas
Low speeds burn gas (optimal speed is around 60 mph) burn gas.

Since your drive is so short............why not just walk? That would be good for your health and good for the environment.

You mean the MPG computer or the gas gauge? Gas gauge is *iffy*, but really doesn't effect calculations as long as you run it down to empty light on fill up to determine gas used. I find computer MPG pretty accurate (compared to calculating on tank fill up results which is really the way to go) as long as ya aren't idling a lot of the time.

lowest ive gotten was 17 and ive had weeks its nothing but city driving with traffic, and others with highway 60-70-80 mph all the way, or that blasted rush hour traffic which takes an hour to go a mile some days. when i got 17 mpg that included driving like I had just stolen the car. The gauge that calculates mpg doesnt do to great with short distances. its about 90% within 1mpg when i do alot of highway and little city. compared to being about 40% right with stop and go traffic and heavy city, a few times it was 3 off, big diff from saying 17 and it was 20.

EVAP System can be throwing your readings off or if there is a leak in the EVAP it can cause your MPG to go down about 6-11 mpg. Mine dropped to that when I had a leak in the EVAP. Check into it and GL !
