Default my car is getting louder with every mile.

I am at 8500 miles and and it seems like the more miles I put on it, the louder it gets. Actually it seems to be the tires that are making the noise. I still have the stock Potenzas. I do plan to change them when it comes time for a new set, but I would like to get a few more miles out of them. It seems that they are loudest at slow speeds, and mostly from the front. My tire preassure is good (right around 35psi). Not sure if this is the "feathering" problem I have been reading about or if it is just a trait of the potenza. I know a lot of people seem to not like the Potenzas and will suggest that I get new tires. I just seems to me that tires that cost around $200 a piece should last more than 8500 miles.
Any ideas?
thanks

Sounds like time to have the dealer perform the tire roar/feathering TSB.

I thought that tire feathering issue was fixed in all the newer builds?

I've noticed the same thing on mine . I never really paid much attention to all the post on the "feathering" topic. Until recently I never noticed the noise. I was wiping my car down and took a look at my front tires. I now see what the fuss is all about. I'd like to take my car in to have everything fixed all at once. The grease marks on my windows, A/C growling, tire feathering, the bose system. I'm not looking forward to battling with the idiots at the dealership. I know there going to try to feed me a line of ********. Also I'm afraid they'll ruin my windows or scratch my tint trying to fix the grease marks. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think that's what happened to another member here.

Trust me, I think all of us can relate with you. I have all the problems you named and then some. I too must deal with moron Service Managers. I came close to kicking him in the nuts last time

I have 5,700 miles on my '03 Coupe, and I've had the tire roar for about 2,000 miles. I took it in this morning to my dealer to have the TSB applied under warranty.

To my surprise, they called me this afternoon and said they were going to replace the front tires with brand new ones. Unfortunately, they have none in stock and have to order them. Also, the replacements will be the Potenzas, although I asked about Michelin Pilots.

I also considered having them do the TSB on the window grease streaks, but decided against it in the end. I've read about too many horror stories from others on this board about dealers screwing up the fix.

Anyway, getting new tires seems to be a pretty good deal.

If the noise gets really loud at low speeds (20-30MPH), especially when slowing down to stop, it's probably the feathering issue.

You guys getting new tires are lucky. My dealer refused to do anything except cross-rotate. I ended up buying new Potenza S-03s at 18,000 miles and I'm keeping an eye on the feathering.

If the car is excessively loud you probably have a feathering problem. Tire rotation helps but it'll return. NNA replaced my tires at about 20k miles with a different type Bridgestone which seems to be feathering a bit but doesn't have noise problem.
(The 030's were replaced w/ 040's or vice versa - I forget which).

Default noise without feathering

I have posted on this before, but at least in my case, the tires were getting loud without feathering. If you look at user reveiws on tirerack, it seems to be a trait of these tires that they get really loud after 4-6K on them. Basically, they suck. Now don't get me wrong, I know the feathering issue exists on a lot of Z's, but dont just assume that because you're tires are loud, that you have a feathering problem. Visually check to see if you do.

I looked at my treads and they seem to be pretty even wear. I am not really sure what I am looking for. I am going to take it to my dealer and see what they say. Even if it is not feathering, I hope there is something they will be willing to do.

You can't tell as much my looking at them as you can by feeling of them. Rub you hand clockwise and counter wise along the inside edge of the tire you should be able to feel the chopping.

BTW: The TSB was done on my car, it is worthless. Now the road noise is fine when braking and going slow but terrible the rest of the time.

Nissan replaced my front tires as well. I used the opportunity to put on Nismo LM-GT4 rims shod with Dunlop SP9000 rubber. It's like driving a different car. Handling has improved, road noise is down, and the wider contact patch on the front takes out some of the annoying understear.

Just had my TSB done at 19K miles. Took care of 80% of the noise. Alignment noticably better. Should get another 5K or better out of the tire now.
