Are they going to limit production on the 350Z?

Hi all, I'm a newbie to these boards, so please bare with me (especially if this question has been asked a hundred times already). My question concerns the availability of this car, and how it's going to affect the sticker price. I would LOVE to pre-order this car, but I don't think, in my current financial situation, I can do that just yet. Give me 6-10 months, and it may be a different situation all together.
So my question is, by waiting until I can reasonably purchase this car, am I going to to pay for MORE for it, or even worse, am I going to be left out in the cold, when it comes to getting one? I sincerely hope that they don't limit production, but you never know what car manufacturors are going to do. Does anyone have any insight, or knowledge that might help calm my concerns, and stop me from rushing down and ordering one right away! Thanks so much for your time.

Nissan has stated that they are aiming for an annual production volume of 30,000 350Z. I am not sure if they will reach that in the first year, but would be surprised if it doesn't. There will probably be inflated prices until this time next year...maybe later.
every sport car will have a limited production per year, it depends on ur luck when u are buying one, maybe at that time they just got a shipment from the coast and u are in the right time to buy it, then u get the choice~
I imagine that it will be like buying a S2000. From what I hear, those are being sold at or near, sometimes above MSRP. I don't think Nissan will limit production, but I don't think you'll see dozens of them sitting at your local Nissan dealer either.
went to my local dealer today, they said they are selling it for MSRP + 650$.. I about fell out of the chair... I don't think so... I wouldn't pay MSRP... much less 650$ over what the manufacturer suggests the car be sold at... How much profit they want to make off this thing? 5000$? They get a 2k spiff, and the typical 2500 - 3000$ margin... if they sell a car as soon as they get it... Oh well.. I'm not going to be one of the first ones anyways, just want to let it be out there for a little while... hopefully... bout september end or by november it comes down to a better price.

I hope you mean September or November 2003? They will not have fulfilled all the preorder by November 2002. I doubt you will find many dealers, if any, selling the 350Z for anything significantly below MSRP before the Q2 2003, much less this year. JMO
Intro year of the Stook saw most dealers selling the car for at least MSRP, if not well over. But there was only 11,788 S2Ks produced for worldwide consumption that year. It will be interesting to see how fast Nissan ramps up production.

All though Nissan did limit the dealerships to MSRP pricing + dealer add on's for the Pre-Orders, it is full rein on anything sold on the lot. Our Dealership for example will be selling at MSRP+5k for the non-pre-orders. Every other dealership that i have spoken with is going to do the same, i have heard anywhere from $4-$10K from others. As far as Limiting production numbers, one of my Customers asked me that when we first started the orders. Here is what i was told by our Regional Nissan Rep. They are going to limit Production the first year to about 30,000... But no plans beyond that. There is one thing for sure though... it will allways be a limited car...unlike the PT Cruiser who's owners are now $20k upside down!

I'm not looking to pickup the car at invoice... I'm just looking worst case to be MSRP... I think that will be obtainable here in our market round november.. of this year... Don't ever plan to get this car for invoice like you can most cars... like has already been said, this will be a somewhat limited production car, however not like the S2k which only have 12k a year made or something like that... or the type R integra about the same...
This is my 2 cents on this subject:
Nissan is in financial recovery phase. The Z is part of that recovery plan. Nissan need to grow and sell as much car as possible to compete with Toyota and Honda. So, after the first year production ramp up and determine the size of the market, Nissan will make as much Z as possible to balance the supply and demand without flooding the market with too many Z on the dealer lot. I don't think there will be either fire sales/rebate on the Z or high dealer mark up due to limited production.
On the other hand, Honda is financially sound. They are purposely limit the S2000 preduction to hold the price and profit margin high. Don't forget, until the Z, there is no close competition for S2000 price range. This will change when the Z start taking their potential customer away.
Hope this help.

The NNA Regional Rep at the Houston event stated specifically that they would never produce more than 30k cars a year. I am not taking his word as gospel, but right now, that is the Nissan line. Whether they stick to it, only time will tell.
