How much money would be lost if I were to trade an automatic '04 for a manual '04?

Default How much money would be lost if I were to trade an automatic '04 for a manual '04?

An interesting oppurtunity is at hand, my mom and dad no longer really fancy driving the Z and have gone back to driving their other cars.

Which means one thing:

The Z is mine when I get my license in 60 days.

However, its an automatic; and I VERY MUCH want to learn a manual transmission. How much money would be lost if I were to trade in the '04 Enthusiast A/T for an '04 Enthusiast M/T?

We paid about 33,000 (taxes and everything) for the Z, and right now I have about 500 bucks (X-Mas cash). I'm wondering how much money I'd have to compensate to make such a trade possible, to see how many hours I'm going to have to work at the movie theater.

The Z has about a thousand miles on it, and no problems whatsoever.

You don't even have a drivers license yet and you want to drive a Z ???

I have a bad feeling about this. The Z is a powerful car that can get you into a lot of trouble. It's like teaching someone to fly in an F-15 rather than a Cessna.

You and your parents might want to rethink that one.

I did this! I originally bought an 04 SB Touriing 5AT and after one week I craved for a 6MT so bad I traded it in for my 04 TRACK that I have now.

It's gonna cost you a bunch, and unless you have deep pockets forget about it.

They are going to burn you on the Trade. Altough I am sure the car is mint with just 1000 miles it is still considered used and your gonna lose a few grand right there.

Next your going to have to repurchase a new Z. Renegotiate a deal pay all the tax and registration fees all over again.

It will cost a few grand to do this. For me it cost more cuz I moved up in models from a Touring to a TRACK.

My advice is keep the 5AT. if your driving a Z at your age your lucky and just be happy with that.

The Z 5AT is an awesome car enjoy it. I know a bunch of guys that have one.

I can totally understand what your feeling. If you got 3 or 4 thousand to throw away then go for it. I did!

If all you have to your name is 500 bucks and your going to save you butt off to do this and then be broke after you do, keep the 5AT.

Yikes, I didn't even think about having to pay the tax again...

Looks like a manual transmission car will have to wait until after college

Thanks for the replies everyone, looks like I'll have to go back to dreaming that the dead-pedal is a clutch...

Assume the 6Speed would cost the same as your current auto did. $33,000 including tax and license. You could probably sell your current Z for about $26,000 depending on mileage. So, you will have a gap of $7,000.

You could look into trading it in on a used 6speed.

I'm with 350Zteve. Trading it in for a used 6spd wouldn't cost you that much. The performance difference between a 6spd and auto is not that much though... maybe you should save your money.

Actually no. You only pay sales tax on the difference in price of the two cars.

E.g. trade-in value is 24k
price of new car 26k

you pay taxes on 2k only... at least thats how it works in NYS.
