Default Trading an Auto for a Manual

I bought a 2004 Touring Automatic a little over a year ago, i still love my car but I was thinking about trading it for a manual version of the same car maybe with a paint change, it's black I was thinking of getting gray. Same year and about same miles (80,5xx). Has anyone done this? Does anyone know how I would do it? Maybe a ad on craigslist? Are there even any people who would want to do that trade? I would prefer not to go through the hassle of selling it then buying a new one, but i'm open to suggestions, thanks!

Selling, no. Trading, pretty much. I don't know anyone who has ever traded a car and was wondering if theres any special way to do it besides the obvious.

Wouldn't they still try to make me pay a couple grand for a similar Z (similar miles and trim) so they can make a profit?

Not if the other car has more mileage, older, and is in worse condition than yours. If it's in similar condition/trim you won't get away with a freebie exchange, and let's say you do do then you'd still have to pay tax on top for the trade since it's a dealership. No dealership is going to do a trade for free if there is no benefit for the dealership.

exactly. thats why there is a difference with trade in value and private party value. if your car is worth 15k to a buyer then they will only give you 8k.

Yeah, I was thinking of even getting a better condition Z and I wouldn't mind paying on top of the exchange, but yeah thats why I wanted to avoid a dealer and maybe go through private party, like on craigslist. But I had no idea if anyone would even want to do that?

Thought so. Would you think it's a good idea to just post a ad on craigslist and see if anyone would want to trade? Or would I get the most value from selling my AT Z then buying a MT Z?

Have you even discussed trading your car with a dealer? I would start there and see what they offer you. Talking over the internet will not get you the answers you need.

You will have to do it at a dealer, not to many 6MT owners are willing to trade for the Barbie version.
