So while cleaning my so called trunk today, i was almost crushed by my Zs hatch. I guess the latches really sucks. Anyone here had this happened? Any quick fixes?

when u have stock hatch struts and a big *** spoiler u learn how to keep it up

 

Time to get some new gas struts.

 

Gotten a few bumps and bruises from my hatch, nothing major, only drew blood once.

It seems to me you are making a big deal over nothing. You might have bonked your head, but it doesn't sound like you were "almost killed".

During the colder months when the struts don't work at all I've been sticking a semi inflated soccer ball in the corner and that holds it up.

As far as encounters like yours I've been smacked once, my ex got it bad when I asked her to grab something out of my trunk and she came back crying and I said "Did you lock it?" instead of "Are you okay?" first.

 

Well, my hatch has fallen on me like..once. Didn't really hurt? Not sure how that qualifies as 'almost killing' you. With that in mind, my struts only like to fail when it gets freezing cold.

I'm slightly concerned about how "violently" the hatch is opened, it's clear all the aftermarket struts are more powerful, but the angles and force they exert on the body/hatch isn't really that good for the small mounting points.
