VDS ?? Pshhh plz

 

I have a Base Z so yea I run all the time without TCS and VDC

 

I always turn mine off and that's for one reason, since ive added my wheels, if I go around a big loop to get on the interstate or even curvy roads, my slip light will come on and cut the power. Not sure if it's a speed sensor or the wheels?

 

I think the so called "nannies" are a good thing for normal everyday driving, the kind most owners of this car will do. The "nannies" save you from yourself. Most drivers' high regard for their driving skill belie the actual skill they possess. Sometimes the driver trying to "save" it, meets with less than desirable results...

Start engine->VDC off->seatbelt->drive. I dont usually take turns to the point where it would matter, but it's habit for me.

 

I have an Enthusiast so there's no VDC but I leave the TCS on unless I'm on the track.

The VDC, even if turned off, will ACTIVATE if the car starts sliding around according to Dori Dori --the reason I bought an Enthusiast.

 

I dont think tcs/vdc wouldve saved this one, by the looks of it. It doesnt override the laws of physics, and is in no way a replacement for skill and technique.

 

sometimes accidentally when I'm filling up.

but I catch generally catch it.

 

vcs is dangerous as ****. the last thing you want to happen in the rain when the backend kicks out is total loss of power.

i have traction control and vdc off at all times.

Many of you are uneducated. Don't even know why your slip light comes on after wheels.

 

I just want to say thank you for sharing this, ordering immediately. I've only had my Z for about a month and its already standard practice for me to turn VDC off almost every time i get in the car. I HATE the feeling I get when the throttle gets cut- I had an '01 "Straclipse"* R/T once upon a time with a very mysterious electrical issue (never got resolved) and throttle would cut randomly usually resulting in an engine stall (amongst other related issues). Very frustrating car to drive and when VDC activates, the feeling that went along with driving the stratus comes back
I do use it in the rain, although I'm rarely if ever on the throttle hard enough to need it in the rain.

Just to clarify, its my understanding that VDC has the ability to cut throttle and apply brakes as needed to maintain traction (Correct?); while, TCS can cut ignition to individual cylinders to more dynamically reduce torque being applied to the wheels without totally cutting throttle.
Am I near correct in this assumption?

I have a Touring model which only included VDC but it behaves completely different than the TCS on board my 08 mustang that the Z replaced.




*For those that don't know and may be interested, the 2000-2005 dodge stratus coupe, chrystler sebring coupe and the mitsubishi eclipse shared a mitsubishi platform.

 

I have started turning mine off when I get in the car as when the brakes activate it scares my wife. The wheels spinning doesn't! lol

 

Really , i would love to know more about this. When it does cut throttle in the rain, i bet you cant spin out for some odd reason

 

My z came with the "always off" feature

 

First thing I did as I was driving away from buying the Z was turn VDC off.
It's already a habit of ignition, VDC off, seatbelt and go!

Hmm cant say that i have ever once thought " i wish i had TCS/VDC right about now" but if you say so.

I've had mine disconnected for over a year without any issues.

 

Did you buy your Z new or used? I ask because I wonder if it may have already had the module previously discussed installed by the previous owner OR in reference to sportbiketed's post, if the previous owner had it disconnected sometime before you purchased it. Can you turn it on with the switch if you want to?

This is interesting... can this be done on a temporary basis AKA could it be easily reconnected or is it more complicated than unplugging a harness somewhere? If the process can be reversed, I'd sure be interested in doing this with my Z. I don't NEED it in the rain, I just don't feel the need to turn it off. Drove a mustang for 4 years with TCS off from day 1.
The only time I ever turned it back on was in the snow one winter and that was a mistake, turned it right back off!

Sorry for my pretty lame questions- when electrical systems are controlling almost every aspect of what should be a mechanical system, I tend to tread very carefully.
