Would You Ship Your Z to Guam?
This poll is to get my fellow Z owners' feedback on what they would do given my current situation.
Previously stationed in Germany, and now in South Korea, I left my Z33 and Z32 in Germany hoping I would get the chance to return. However, I ended up getting an assignment to Guam for a minimum of 3 years. I'll be there in October of this year.
The question is, would you take the Z33 given the higher chance of salt damage and overall low speed limits throughout the small island?
Would you leave it in storage where it's safe for the next three years, just accumulate parts, and just wait until you get stationed somewhere else?
Or would you leave it in storage but not get parts and just put the money towards a newer, faster car?
As far as the 300ZX goes, it's JDM so the only way I'll get to drive it again is is if I get stationed outside the CONUS and its territories. Any feedback is greatly appreciated guys.

I would ship the 350z , looking at craigslist, not much available. Then again, needs may change, buy a beater when you get there.
I have had Anderson on my dreamsheet for a while now, I want orders dam it.

From where? From Guam? And as a beater?
I will definitely get a beater--more than like my only car while I'm there. Where are you now?
I thought about that, but I don't intend on going back to the US until I'm close to retirement which will be another 7 to 11 years
Thanks for the input guys.

Your Z32 will be able to come to the states when it is 25 years old, probably around retirement time.
I doubt i would bring my Z to Guam, just the Jeep. Way to much scuba diving to own a sports car. Was a PITA to dive with my Skyline, i always had my gear and tanks loaded in the trunk.
The only base in Vegas.

I'll let you know what it's like when I get there, maybe bringing your Z won't be that bad.

Speaking as an Army and NCIS brat, here's my experience on moving vehicles around the planet:
We were stationed in the Philippines and South Korea between 1982 and 1988. We brought the family's '78 Chevy Malibu station wagon along with us. By the times we were back stateside, the car was trashed (between the potholes, the car getting loose in the shipping container while in transit and the crazy Asian drivers - I'm half Asian, so I'm allowed to say that). Your Z will be doomed if you take it to Guam.
That said, my parents bought a 1988 Chrysler New Yorker when we got back to the states and I got stuck with that POS Chevy for a few years until I traded it for a 20" TV set. When they got assigned to Washington DC, they took the New Yorker with them. Then it was off to Okinawa and they couldn't take the car. The Japanese wouldn't allow anyone to bring in their car from the states, so they had to buy a couple used Nissans on the base when they got there. After Okinawa, they went to Germany and took the New Yorker with them. This was probably the ONLY New Yorker in Germany, and my dad was offered $30,000 to unload it to some poor schlep out of Stuttgart because it looked so "fly" compared to all the VW Golfs and Mercedes Benz's. That said, you may be able to sell the Z in Guam for a buttload of cash if there aren't any other Z's on the island. Just sayin'.
Good luck either way, and THANK YOU for doing what you do!

^^ Thanks for the feedback. I agree that bringing my Z to Guam would more than likely fukc it up. If it doesn't get damaged through shipping, the salt and just overall local conditions will more than likely get to it. I don't intend on selling the car so we'll see what happens.
Google is my friend.

For what it's worth, I am actually from Guam (live in NY now). If you want your cars with you and it is simply a matter of worrying about the roads...bring them. Guam has/had a very big car scene for an island that is only 30x12 miles long and wide respectively. Roads aren't bad, no worse than types of roads you expect in the states. The main road, Marine Drive, (goes all around the island) is nice.
Put it like this, if Supras, Nsx's, Ferraris, Porsches, vettes' vipers and other Z owners of every year gets along just fne, so will you. There is a major Nissan dealer there as well.
It's a great place, beautiful cruising environment....don't be afraid to leave Anderson nor Big Navy grounds...one of the safest places you will ever be.....
Lots of Z owners there.
Cruise around the island on Marine drive and stop by Hotel Row in Tumon. From Anderson you just take Marin drive south and take a right at the traffic light where you will see a huge *** Kmart to your left...beaches...drinks...girls...BBQ :-)
PS: brown tree snakes used to be a big problem as they were brought in to handle over population of various birds....now there are a lot of brown tree snakes...more of a joke about an exaggerated truth.
PSx2: If you drink, check out Porky, Horse and Cow, Globe, Casa Nami for a few decent rounds...tumon has everything to get you started, then you will slowly find your dive joints :-)
PSx3: the new and official drag strip (1/4 mile) is off of the "Back road to Anderson"...ask around...that is what it is known as...lots of Honda's, few Z's, a Gtr or two, some muscle :-)

^^^I really appeciate the info and vids farvaric. I'll see how it is first hand and then decide. I'll check out the spots you mentioned, seems like I'll enjoy it as much as Florida. I miss the chill, beach lifestyle so I'm sure Guam won't fall short on that. What about the women?
