Why would someone put a blacklight on the passenger floorboard?
I bought a 2005 350z two weeks ago. Great reminiscing to my days of racing older Zs and ZXs...
Anyway, there was a mystery black plastic toggle switch almost hidden under the dash, on the driver's side. I didn't notice it until I had purchased the car and was on my way home.
Not being one to test such things out on the road, I waited until parked to flick it a few times. No noticeable change. I then started the car back up and flicked it a few more times while driving in a parking lot. Nothing was happening.
So, I figured the previous owner had some gadget or gizmo installed, but had removed it... just leaving a dead switch.
In all the flicking, it ended up in the opposite position from where it started, I believe.
That night, my wife and I get in the car, I start it up, and she immediately asks me, "Why are my feet glowing?"
Thinking this some odd wife behavior, not necessarily related to the car, I look over and prepare to examine her feet and find out if they are glowing, why that might be (and if not, what the heck do I respond to THAT question?)
...But sure enough, her feet are glowing. There is a black light under the dash on the passenger side. And some hints of black-light leaking out from under the steering column as well.
Immediately, a light-bulb goes off in my head, and I know what the switch is for. Not why, mind you, but what. And yup, as soon as I reached down and flicked the switch, the glow disappears.
The next thing I do is put the car back in park (we hadn't moved yet), turn the black-light on, and get out to examine the car. Probably part of some under-car light kit or something like that. I pop the hood, walk all around the car, and... nothing.
It was just a single black-light mounted somewhat professionally, at the passenger's feet up under the dash, with enough glow to shine through to the driver's side as well.
Now my mind is conjuring up all sorts of nefarious reasons as to why this light may have been installed; counterfeiting, drugs, etc. But I haven't a single clue.
Anyone know what this may really be?

Maybe the previous owner had a foot fetish and liked female passengers to show off their feet? Or it's to reveal all the 'stains' from extracurricular activities.

I imagine that it was installed by the original owner as a James Bond way to check his girlfriend's legs and clothes for stains clandestinely. I imagine he would lean over to kiss her, or distract her… then hit the switch while she was distracted to do a quick "safety check" before taking it to the next level.
…or maybe I just have an active imagination.

especially the part about wondering what to tell her.. haha.
why would they do that?
I do salute your query, but you will sadly find that the now low price of the car used has now opened it up to daft bastards and 16 year old children.

But I am young enough to be thinking of some of the stupid things I want to do to this new Z which have nothing to do with any sort of performance but I just want to do to make it look cool.
To me...
I know many people (both among my friends and family, as well as among forums like these) will think I am insane for what I wish to do to my car.
If that is an age related issue... It may not be that I am young enough; I may just be dumb enough

lmao. Surprised that they're aren't any "Sticker vents" on the fenders.. I hate the stuff people do to their cars. Like when i bought mine there was a Nismo sticker on the front, back and on ALL wheels.. If you like it though, keep it ahaha.
I got it for $2,000 under KBB for the base model, though I had to buy a useless 'extended bumper to bumper warranty' for $1,200 to get that $2,000 reduction... I still came out way ahead on the deal!
It is a touring model (though the dealership sold it as a base model), and other than the black-light, seems almost 100% stock. And super duper clean. I'd have thought it a new car if I didn't know better. And for an '05, 65k miles was very low... like 8,000 miles a year.

Damn man, Nice. I paid NINETEEN THOUSAND for mine. lmao.
My brother got a red G35 coupe 03 for 3k. Only 80 thousand miles on it and CLEAN. Except a a few minor scratches on the gray door handles on the inside.
And needed new struts.
There was a huge issue, which almost bit me in the ***... There was a brake squeal they claimed was 'new pad squeal' - and when they told me they had put in semi metallics, I figured that was the case. I still had them take it back in overnight after signing the contract and check it out.
I then picked it up, was assured nothing was wrong, and took it on my maiden drive 500 miles home (yes I went out of state to buy this). The squeal wasn't noticable on the trip home, but in the first week of driving, instead of clearing up it got worse and worse until it became a high pitched grinding instead of a squeal. So I took it in, had the tires off, and sure enough, no pads on front (they were there, just worn down to literally nothing), and way old/bad pads on the rear. Rotors on the front completely shot, the rear were salvageable, but barely.
Took me a week of not driving my new baby and calling the dealership, to get them to finally agree to pay for all new brakes. So I now have 4 brand new rotors, all new akebono pads, and associated hardware etc. So in the end it turned out all right, but that week of talking to lawyers and envisioning a court case was no fun!
