Default Getting another Z

I had a 2004 Grand Touring that I got rid of April last year. Turns out that was a bad decision but I needed the cash pretty bad at the time and I owned the car so it helped give me the needed cash in hand.

I am in the market for another Z but it seems like 90% of them in my budget range here in Chicago are 2003's.

Are there any annoying little changes that were fixed in the 04's that is worth pointing out? I AutoX once a month on average maybe more depending on the events I go to. For the most part this is my daily driver of a 80 mile round trip to work and back. In my 04 I didn't really notice horrible tire roar like some of the reviews I hear about the 03's. I am pretty sure I had an extra cigarette lighter than the 03's?

Other than some of those are there any other little things that are different that might annoy me knowing my old car had but this one doesn't?

The 2004 model year never had a Grand Touring, just Touring.

The 03 has one power outlet. Is this a big deal?
Concerning the tire roar(front alignment fix),I'd have to believe that any&all
03's for sale would have long fixed the problem. Was the first owner's headache
not yours. Its not uncommon to find a very low mileage 03.Many older
buyers(maybe owned a 240 as I did)bought the rebirth Z when the 03's came out.Many guys drove them occaisionally--can have 15-20k miles.The 04 should be identical to the 03.For some reason(I may be just
imagining)the 03 sits a bit lower...especially in the rear.Possibly Nissan changed
springs/shocks with later models?Dunno.
If you look at some of the reliability specs, the 03 ranks pretty high.At 79k mine
runs as new.Understand by some of the reviews the 6MT was a bit of a trouble?
Mine is a 5AT,no problems even with some shift mods.
Good luck on your search.Maybe you can find a Track!

I got an 03 MT is almost 74k miles. Runs great thankfully. No concerns so far. As far as I know the tire feathering and stuff would have been fixed by now. So you got nothing much to worry about. Just try to buy one that's in good condition and take well care of it and you will be fine. I don't know if you noticed but we recently started a 200,000 mile thread. So they run pretty strong

Good luck!

The true 04's are the same as 03s. The 2004.5 models is where some changes started. Most significant was a suspension change to make it less harsh than the 03/04 and to reduce the porposing/bounce on the highway.

Good points..even though I did not note the harshness/porposing
on my 03 when I bought it new,the addition of Koni's&Nismo sways
improved the ride.

HAHAHA yeah first post because I never had a problem searching and finding info I needed. This one is a little different. I can find info pertaining to each but none of which specifically points out the small differences... I know its a stupid thing to ask but it was something I am curious about.

Thanks for the replies from the other posters and the info you brought to the table. I wouldn't mind an 03 but i was told there were changes between my 04 which was a late model 04 and the early production 03's so i figured i would get some info.

could be wrong, but i believe just minor issues adressed. im thinking the '04 corrected or at least helped relieve uneven tire wear.. window motors.. for what ever reason the 05, including mine, developed a fuel tank filling problem?
other then that, find a lightly used knowledgeable owner and good luck

One post every 4 years. That has to be a new world record.

HAHA I joined but didnt get a Z till way later went with a srt-4, crossfire srt-6, swapped civic hatch, mini cooper s, 2 bikes, 2 jetskis, and an srt-8 before I got my 350 haha... all completely different cars used for different reasons.

Never felt a reason to post because the site answered my questions and any comment I had on the forums were either answered or would have been a ******** post.
