So what's best? The short Oil filter 65FOO or the long one 9E000?

Try the Mobil 1 M108 or the slightly longer M110. I use the M110, and you can get it at Autozone.

Since its longer, would I have to add more than 5 quarts of oil ?

only use the long ones. like the: 9E000 (if you go with OEM)

Otherwise, everyone recommends the Mobil 1 M110. The M110 is the best from Mobil. some also use the M105, but the 110 is probaby the better way to go.

avoid the crappy Fram filters with cardboard in them.

Just so you know... the shorter OEM ones are poorly constructed and use cardboard end caps... the lowest of the low, IMO. The longer OEM filter has better construction , but the filter media is still paper. I took both apart and have pics that illustrate my point well. Go with Mobil 1 filters. I use the M1-110.

No, just use the 5 quarts. The difference in size, even though it is larger, is not very much. Filters now days are not like the big soup cans of yesteryear, they are smaller than the size of your fist. Thus the difference between M1-108 and M1-110 is not meaningful relative to oil volume.

If you go to a bypass filter set up, then you need to add a quart to handle the additional size of the large separate filter.
