Panasonic BL series (C230, etc) cameras were perfect for the convertible. Not only did they have motion sensors and would automatically pan/tilt to point at any motion, they had built in cache, recorded video+audio, and can upload the recordings via a separate hardwired MiFi connection to your gMail account, dropbox, etc. Point one forward from the tonneau, point one backwards from the dash, and you're pretty well covered. Add proximity sensors on your alarm that give a kind chirping if someone gets too close to the car and goes off if an arm reaches into the cabin area… along with remote paging and you're ready to prevent most thieves. I do recommend a separate, dedicated battery for the security system though in case you leave it parked for a few days without a chance for the alternator to charge things up.
