Four banger Z??
It would be nice if they took this idea and insted of making it the new Z they brought back the 240sx. Then they could take the Z, up the performance and handling to be comparable to the base Corvette and ask about 50k for it. That would give Nissan one heck of a strong sports car line up.
The FRS/BRZ in nothing more than a new version of the RWD RSX-s, at least IMO. people and all the MAGs had a huge hard on for it then just like the FRS/BRZ now. And saying ones trying to follow "the spirit of the AE86" are some really big shoes to fill. besides, the Z I still think was a better platform then as far as performance then vs. the Sprinter Trueno
Bringing down the Z to a turbo would fail like the the 2.3 turbo Mustang...at least thats what I think.

Im sure plenty of people would be interested in a 4 cylinder variant, but I feel like most current Z owners cant stand the idea. I love the 6 and given the option of a turbo 4 or 6 I would pick the 6, but just my personal opinion. To me the Z is in a class of its own. I wanted one since I saw the first 350 come out and what almost 9 years later just bought it and it still is freakin amazing, how many cars can you really say that about? I just would hate to see a major overhaul of the Z and turn it into something like a mustang where you cant drive down the street without seeing a couple hundred.
But on the topic, the Z just can't downgrade in engine displacement. Hopefully the pairing with Daimler doesn't mess up the engine r&d for the Z. Can't beat that VQ V6.
Honeslty I am sadden if this is true, and will not want to associate myself with a 4 cylinder engine car.
As for the rumor, all the rumors I've heard says it will be a v6 mercedes engine.

OK, so here's my problen with this whole damned thing, and I've been stewing over it a while- The Z line has been sitting at 300 hp for almost 20 years. The 370s have supposively kicked it up to "330" but if you ask me it's hog wash smoke and mirrors. I've dragged plenty of 370s in my Nissy and they didn't pull on me at all. It was more or less and even pull. So not sure where that magic 25 or so hp comes in at. Non the less- back on topic- every other manufacturer is continually cranking out more and more power. Hell, the Mustang GT is standard at a whopping 400 horses and now you got some Hyundai at around 350??? No, a four banger will not freaking do. Its going to have to be big. I'm talking 400 horsepower or BUST.
I better see a 400Z (or even better 400ZX) badge on the back of that stinking car and I better have 400 hp at my crank.
Rant over. Shweew.

First of all there is no such thing as a v4. Second It is not possible to get 380-400 horsepower out of a v6. Third I think many of your expectations are unrealistic. I would be happy with a nimble 300 hp car that weighd sub 2800 even maybe 3000 lbs. This would be able to corner and be a monster in straight line performance.

Perhaps you knew what you meant to post and phrased it improperly. I'm not trying to start any arguments. Quite the contrary, I completely agree with a 2,800 lb 300 hp car. The Z is already fun, despite it's weight. Put it on a diet and it has loads of potential.
or.......
a factory postive displacement S/C on the current package. For get a turbo
But then again, GTR sales would nose dive and thats a Nissan flagship

They already have the G25... Im sure it wil lose the VQ designation if is loses a couple cylinders.
Super cars are dong the same thing because engines are becoming so efficient at making power. Ferrari is already moving more to v8 in lots of their cars. and look at audi s4 went from a na v8 to the supercharged v6.
Hard to say where things are going to end up.. Who cares, die hard is a die hard she is comes to cars.. If you don't like i swap it, no?

Unrealistic to get 380 hp from a V6? A 100 hp per liter 3.8 will do just that. Granted, it's very unlikely Nissan will come out with such a gem, but that's what turbos are for.

The 997 GT3 RS 4.0 is making 500HP out of a V6 4.0L engine.

Nowhere did I say it had to be a V6 in the first place. But secondly, what are you smoking to think they couldn't produce 400 HP with a V6. Um, ever heard of forced induction???? It's sitting on 300 right now. Give it a mild tune at 6 PSI and there you go. Four hundo.

Guys there is no replacement for the 370z just yet. The car they want to produce is a lighter brz/frs competitor! So if it came with a four banger that's fine by me since it's a completely dif model. Then I found out its intended to be a fwd vehicle! In which case I do have a problem with. Now to the people asking for more power for the next z. How about less weight?! I hate how people are always complaining about the lack of horsepower! As stated above drop the weight and she'll be good
