I would have no problem with a turbo 4cyl AWD platform. I drove a lightly-modified '92 Eagle Talon TSi AWD Turbo for years that would run rings around most other sportscars, regardless of price. But the big thing, as has been pointed out previously, is to put the Z on a diet!!
Also, this talk of them going to a Mercedes engine is really disturbing. Mercedes USED to have a good reputation for reliability, but since the merger with Chrysler their quality has gone down the toilet and they are rather unreliable. Going to an engine made by another company would be a huge mistake on Nissan's part, and would generally fly in the face of pretty much all Japanese manufacturing principals (There IS a reason why most Japanese companies make almost all of their components in-house or in "seperate companies" that are little more than subsidiaries with a different name. They are not fond of relinquishing total process control to an outside firm!).

First of all there is no such thing as a v4. Second It is not possible to get 380-400 horsepower out of a v6. Third I think many of your expectations are unrealistic. I would be happy with a nimble 300 hp car that weighd sub 2800 even maybe 3000 lbs. This would be able to corner and be a monster in straight line performance.
No such thing as a V4? Really?
Not possible to get 380-400 hp out of a V6????? Dude, I got more than that out of a 1.8 liter 4-cylinder in my old talon! And my Supra went WAY past those numbers with a 6 (until I totaled it)!!! Getting it out of the 350Z motor is actually quite easy (especially with FI)and doesn't push the design too bad. You are aware that there are folks out there bumping (or going beyond!) 1,000 hp from the Nissan V6, aren't you???

Make a 4.0 with big horsepower! There are tons of 4.0 v6 motors that are marvelous. Porsche has so many of them up and working and killing cars on the road... even tho they are a little bit different then the Z's VQ motor, Im sure they can crank out a good amount of hp out of it.
I love my car with a passion, but I know that if Nissan cant make their sports cars with more horse power than some daily driven sedans then we have a problem. I think if we break that 400hp point and keep close to the mustangs, we don't have to beat them cause our v6 hasn't ever really had more HP then their v8, then we will still have as strong of a following as we do right now, but that is the only way Nissan will keep selling a high volume of the Z's. I think Nissan knows all this too, I would kinda like to see a VQ37 have a turbo slapped on from Nissan with the cool tune on the fly thing like the juke has.

No, actually it's the other way around. There are several models made by Renault that have the 350Z engine in them --- but the engine is pure 100% Japanese!!! Renault inked a contract with Nissan to supply them with the motors for their Laguna, Espace, and Samsung SM7 models. Nice extra income for Nissan, but it has caused a lot of misconceptions.

They are great for motorcycles (Yamaha just developed a new VMAX) and outboard boat motors (Evinrude 140 was one of the best).
I completely agree with you if we are only talking about V4s in cars, not V4s in general.

I guess I read your statement as "not being produced AT ALL in the last 30 years," rather than "not being produced in a car in the last 30 years."
All good
