Default Rear Wheel slip in Cold Weather?

Had an interesting experience this morning. It was about +6 degrees outside. I let the car warm up a bit before driving away. The road conditions were dry. For the first 5 or so minutes, every turn I made caused the slip light to come on on the dash. I felt the slip each time. Once the tires warmed up a bit (5 minutes of driving) the problem seemed to go away. My guess was the cold tires caused the condition. Anyone else experience this? Is this common to the Bridgestone's with there hard compound?? In the 1 1/2 years I've owned the car, I've never had this happen before.. Oh.. Tire pressure was +/- 34 lbs in each wheel..

Anyone care to comment?

yep...

cold rubber does not grip... My Bridgestone SO2s (a fairly soft compound) are about 6 months old, temps in Houston have been in the 40s in the AM, and I get slipping all the way to the office.

Once temps are about 60 or better, I don't have anything to worry about.

Cheers,

Same thing here, and the ride is like a Flintstone car with rock tires until they warm up. but it only lasts for about 5 minutes until they heat up a bit.

I have noticed that on the colder mornings here, upper 20s to low 30s, my Falken FK-451s seem to develop a slight flat spot from setting overnight that takes about 5 minutes or so to go away. They are too have very little traction in the cold but I have never seen the slip light come on.
