Is it true? All 2004s come with synthetic oil?

 

I'd bet money on NO. It would take forever for it to break in, if it ever would at all.

 

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Nissan recommend synthetic oils after 10k miles?

 

Lots of cars come from the factory with synthetic in the engines. Corvettes, some Mercedes I think, etc.

 

Unless they have changed their policy in the last couple months, they were recommending AGAINST synthetic for the Z......although most people figure its just because they tested with natural oil. Doesn't stop me and many others from using synthetic though.

 

My 2004 doesn't have synthetic. Also, my owner's manual states, "NISSAN recommends mineral based oils."

 

Thats because we asked Nissan to explain their language in the owner's manual. All they tested was mineral oil, an engineer rep said they were NOT against syn, but they didn't test it. The pre-production Zs tested in the USA before finalization were observed by one or more of our spies to have a sticker next to the dipstick saying, use Mobile 1. Some think the valves won't seat until 10,000 miles, but I changed to Mobile 1 at 4700 miles and others changed as soon as they got the car. No ill effects have been observed that I know of to date.

In the picture of the pre-production engine that I saw, someone had written "Mobile 1" on the strut tower bar above the oil filler cap. I'm not sure about a sticker next to the dipstick. I never heard if they did an engine teardown and compared that engine to one using conventional oil.

Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against synthetic oil. In fact, I'm probably going to switch to synthetic after 10,000 to 15,000 miles. I'll PROBABLY be perfectly fine and I hope that my engine will be better off with synthetic oil!

 

It wouldn't come with Synthetic if the dealers use "regular"oil for oil changes.

 

Ive had Mobil1 5W30 in mine since 6400 and im now at 17800 with no problems.

 

I buy my own syn and take it to the dealer for oil and filter changes. They don't have any problems with my preference.
