Default Having trouble with heel-toe in the Z

I know this is probably a done to death topic but from the responses I've read, people usually say that the accel pedal(edit - sorry tired) is too small so they get a custom one. That's not my problem, my heel is angled directly over the accelerator as it is, but either I try to blip it a bit and there's nothing there because it's recessed, or I try a committed hard blip, and tap the recessed pedal but actually get my heel stuck on the center console, all of the time. This feels like a major roadblock in my learning to drive better. I don't think hitting your heel against the console is a natural problem so what am I doing wrong here? Does anyone else have this exact problem? My foot isn't even that big!

Try angling your foot less and rotating your heel down to catch a slightly lower part of the throttle. Before I had pedal covers, I only needed a slight movement to catch the edge of the gas pedal. Never came close to the console. Now with pedal covers I dont even have to swing my heel out, I can use the right ball of my foot to blip the throttle. I would recomend at least some pedal covers though... its a night and day difference.

I can't "heel toe" with my normal sneakers on, but barefoot I can do it like a champ.

If I have my sneakers on I "ball toe" (as I like to call it) where I use my toe to blip the throttle and the ball of my foot on the brake, rolling my foot onto the accelerator.

Off topic: where from NY are you?

380RS pedal helps a bit, its available at www.nissanraceshop.com , talk to Scott. I installed that and bent my throttle pedal over closer to the brake pedal.

calm down with that super angle or try moving your foot to the left on the brake pdeal more. you only need a little contact pitch with the gas pedal.

floor mounted pedals like in porsches and bimmers i have trouble with.

Never driven one of those before, but I'm a sim racer and my pedals are floor mounted. That must be why I do it.

To think that the solution was this easy, I feel silly.

My car's pedals:

My sim's pedals:

Do you see it now? I learned heel toe with racing sims before even driving my car. But the difference is clearly the brake being more over the left in my sim racing, so I'm used to pressing there and angling my foot more.

Wait one ******* minute...........your are a sim driver, now a real life driver?

More seat time, driver position, seatbelts and learn your real ******* car! Size twelves and I can down shift/heel toe two gears into corners I know by heart. It's experience on top of being secured in the car...also not being afraid to smash the brakes.

Now while in a video game you can exercise technique to the t. Real life you have way more variables! Surface, tires, car's suspension, and your driving ***** in real life might be smaller. So diving into the corner in GT5 is über easy, same corner in real life comes with the harm factor to you or your car!

Also trail braking, heel toe, rev matching, and any other technique you are trying to execute. Needs to be on the same corner or similar corner to improve the end result.

Anyways funny you asked, and compared it to a simulator...

I use the ball of my foot higher on the brake than normal and a shallow angle to catch the edge of the gas pedal with my heel. I don't over-emphasize the angle...

No. All I was doing was practicing race driving techniques in the game, especially things like heel toe and trail braking, before I attempted them in a real car. When I first got my Z, I could actually heel toe with my smaller dress shoes, but since I started wearing sneakers, my heel was getting caught on the console.

Anyway, yes GT5 actually taught me some high level racing skills that I have yet to try out on my real car, but I know the motions now. Of course I need more seat time, but consider the game as image training, which a lot of drivers do, for mental preparation.

Practice more of a 'roll' of your foot to the right and not 'pressing down' with the heel.

Works for me...

uh dont know if this helps. but for me I just had to position the ball of my foot higher on the brake pedal. Once I learned this it was easy.

This is a cam from my first track test....

If I learned it with a gamepad before driving, I could understand what might be funny, but I have actual pedals, a racing seat, a gated shifter and...you're going to laugh even harder, aren't you?

Get a shop to create some aluminum plates to stack and bolt on top of the pedal to "raise" it for your needs? Make sure its not heavy enough to preload the gas though.
