Number Designations
Greetings,
I am new to this forum. I owned a '78 280Z and now drive an '04 350Z. Would someone explain the "Z33" number on the home page. I thought the Z34 in the VIN was the Coupe and Z36 was the Roadster.

Thanks for replying... What do you mean by internal designation? Do you mean like Camaro's Z28 designation? If you look at your VIN number you will find a Z34 for the coupe, and I was told you would have a Z36 if you drove a Roadster. My brother and I both have a coupe with AZ34 in it. So what or where did the Z33 originate and what does it represent? Thanks again for replying. By the way... nice Z!!

There's a thread that'll explain the Z34 in the VIN number, but it has nothing to do with the chassis code, which is Z33 for the 350Z. IIRC, Z34 means Z-car, 3rd in the series (as in Z31, Z32, Z33 series), and 4 means coupe (6 being, obviously, the roadster). Hope that helps.
